Okay. Let's suppose for argument's sake the US allows offshore drilling. What is the leap that convinces people you will pay less for gas? The limited oil from US offshore drilling cannot influence a world market commodity. Canada produces a lot of oil and the prices are not affected. Only Socialist producing countries which own the production share the low costs with citizens.

We have acreage in our country already open for drilling that we don't even use. Why not use that? Offshore drilling makes no sense at all, McCain even says it's mainly a psychological thing. I fail to see how it not being the most important issue doesn't mean they should talk about it or look at it as a short term solution to energy issues till alternative energy becomes more prominent. And people wonder why nothing gets done in Washington. Its because they are too busy trying to sink each others ship.

It's not even a short term "solution" because it would take around ten years for that oil to be taken from the ground, our existing refineries are already producing at capacity and there's no guarantee that that oil would even be sold on the American market when it finally became available.

Drilling shouldn't be taken off the table, but it's by no means a magical get out of jail free card.

More offshore drilling should be taken off the table faster than spoiled meat. Big oil has millions of acres of unexplored land they can readily drill. Until they've tapped the acres they do own, they can leave our oceans the hell alone.

Besides, oil is a global market. Just because we drill oil here, doesn't mean it will stay here. Every expert, even Bush's own Energy Dept, has concluded that even when additional drilling does start to produce oil, it will have no effect on gas prices.
