I don't know what to think. The whole favela banging away. If you hear them once I suppose they sound great. The second time you want them to go away.
Or maybe you (being "southern")expect us from the north to accept the culture from the south. Neat tradition and music but don't expect us to conform.

This rtythem is probaly some sort of Reggae, Samba Reggae or Axe as they are a Afro-Reggae Band only.

Maybe you are just too northern to feel rhythm, you probably think electric guitars are great ...
I love the live sound of drums, especially big ones, I can feel the bass sound, which makes me euphoric :)
