@silverbud: The artistic freedom is not executed well in this film. The director butchers up the novel by inventing characters and events that were not in the original book, and distorts the ones that were. To me this is bad taste and not artistic freedom. If one chooses to base a (movie) project on a book, I think the original authorship needs to be respected. Bulgakov would have been horrified to see this movie.
The book is so vast that changes of characters and events had to be made. Besides, Petrovic himself speaks of a loose interpretation of the book. I think that the essence of Bulkakovs thoughts are portrayed even perfectly. By the way, exactly like Maksudov's interpretation of Jesus and Pilate!
I tried so hard to find the novel I fetl in love with in this movie... I'm so sorry... But I couldn't.
Really, really bad adaptation... If Bulgakov were not dead, he would die after watching this movie...

the only real "master" in this film is Ennio Morricone and his absolutely great soundtrack!

Such a liberal interpretation of Bulgakov's masterpiece does injustice to the novel and to the author.

Funny, you repeat the nonsense of Pilate and the others. It is called artistic freedom. ;-)
