  • When was this recorded? Sept '67 In the garage of where Syd was living, Syd had been pensioned off one package tour of the UK by then, but would be finished off from playing live before the end of the year by an up-coming tour of the USA and another UK package tour. The music he wrote after recording this included 'Apples And Oranges', 'Vegetable Man' and 'Scream Thy Last Scream', of which there are BBC session versions, recorded Dec '67, the last music Syd played with the band....

  • This defenitely sounds like Syd playing. Haven't heard the recording before.. I wonder when it was recorded..

  • Un dia estudiaran Pink floyd en las universidades....

  • @sansalka En las Escuelas de música ya se estudia

  • watching this makes me feel dizzy and nauseus. great music tho!

  • What version is this because this sounds nothing like the one on the piper at the gates of dawn.

  • I miss the genuine Hippies. Not the pseudo "hippycritical" hippies of the late 80's and onward.I remember them when i was 4 or 5 back in '72 & '73. those were the final years of them. The 60's ended with Watergate & U.S getting out of Vietnam. My aunt married a guy with long hair who was like a hippy back in 1973.He was studying to be a teacher.Unfortunately they only stayed married about a year.

  • Dave playing guitar?

  • This was actually recorded on Oct 31 1966

  • this is grunge...

  • @kobralucas you mean Grunge is 'this' :)

  • This recording of the 'Floyd is incredibly valuable and yes, it should be cleaned up and released as the earliest version of Interstellar Overdrive ! It was recorded in October 1966 I think, at their first demo recording. It's definitely Syd on guitar - his style is so recognisable. It gives a good idea of what one of their early performances would have been like at the All Saints Hall and the IT magazine launch that same month at the Roundhouse.....

  • This is a great version of this song! Amazing!

    Dropacid--not bombs

  • Actually this version seems to be a 1967 recording made before "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" was released.

And it's so different from the "Let's All Make Love in London" film version of "Interstellar Overdrive"! I wish this "San Francisco" working was available on cd!

  • This is an exceptional version of "Interstallar Overdrive"! I don't care whether Syd Barrett is featured on it or not, it's a jolly good rendition of a psychedelic classic tune! If it is Syd playing the guitar, well, I'm even happier! It could be David Gilmour or even David O'List if it's 1968 after Syd had left, then it's possible that David O'List stood in at the last moment to save the day on the US tour?

  • i agree. regardless of whom may be appearing it lives up to it's psych roots, and believe me i cant stand gilmour's work with the band.

  • This was recorded in 1966, it was one of their first recordings, the film was just released in 68.

  • @edomameo

There is only one person who can make some of those sounds you hear, which means this was probably recorded in '66 or '67.

  • Agreed fucking dreadfull

  • Please...This is one of the best track Pink Floyd has ever produced!

So unique. Everytime I discover one of the many available versions of Interstellar Overdrive, it's such a mystic experience

To reply to edomameo, you can actually put it on a CD. Use Downloadhelper, then VirtualDub, then Nero... Finally, enjoy it

  • Or, even better, look up the HYGIY? anthology on a bit torrent, where this and every other out take known are compiled in the first 4 volumes.

  • best improv song ever

  • This is the music able to let you feel the LSD effects without take it! PINK FLOYD all the way!!!!!!!!!

Impressive how art from these days comes together with art from those days.

Who made this video? please let me know.

  • What's the history of this footage? A light show for Floyd? A fan film?

  • Syd Barrett ta' OWNAGE!!!

  • cool.......it's like "the line-up" on acid

  • One of the best psychedelic songs ever written

  • hmmm, ahhh, too bad you didn't enjoy it...

"Interstellar Overdrive" was their recognized signature song in the clubs, played over and over, and their fans already knew its theme and structure... why not improvise and get loose with it?

i've never Floyd do a bad version of this song, it's just that great!

  • Hans Keller has got a youtube account!

  • Hahaha. That was really good.

  • Suh-suh-suh-sssnap!
