  • You can actually download it as an ebook from lulu.com for £17.00.

The reason it is expensive is because it is full of illustrations set in the five countries of origin and A4 size, as a record of some of the history of the times. For whom did you do the research - may I ask ?

  • I helped do some research for this book as our families have joint ancestry - but at £35 can't really afford to buy it which is a pity.

  • I don't know who's idea it was to do this book, but I'm not sure why they did it. I love Russell Crowe's persona, but couldn't really care less about his family background. I love watching his acting, I think he's an exceptionally interesting person, but wouldn't care if he was a bastard and orphan.

  • This research was originally requested by the BBC for a family history film. Millions of people watch the series 'Who Do You Think You Are?' and are fascinated by the origins of well-known and often much admired celebrities. Most of us tend to have a bastard or orphan in our family background and far from 'caring' about it we view it as a fact of human history, and the courage of our ancestors to overcome such disadvantages - survival of the fittest !

  • Why do you think such a book is not necessary? It's not just about his family background it's piece of social history and inspiration to others.

I noticed in your profile you are interested in history so why rubbish a book you haven't read which is full of beautifully illustrated social history? I'm a historian and I think it's a great inspiration to anyone wanting to research their own family history and if using Russell Crowe as an examole inspires others - it's a job well done.

  • because its silly? I mean, I L O V E Russell Crowe's acting, but he's not really a historical figure. He's interesting, I don't think he is party to this nonsense is he? I suppose he must have give some sort of OK...but why I don't know.

  • If you read the comments you'll note that no-one at any point said he was a historical figure - the history is about ancestors and how they lived ie. social history. Why is real, historical , documented evidence nonsense? I think you are confused at what constitutes history. No one needs to give an OK to historical evidence which is freely available in the public domain. Olease don't be so quick to rubbish something you obviously have so little knowledge of.

  • Well said!!

  • This is a fantastic video. I've never seen anything like this before !!The book - I got it and it is brilliant and so well illustrated feel I am there in those places with his ancestors. I recommend anyone who loves Russell to buy this fantastic book

  • I bought the book and really enjoyed learning about Russell's ancestors and the world they lived in. No aristocrats, just hard working men and women, some brave enough to sail off to distant shores.

  • I got it too - I highly recommend this beautifully illustrated book. Fantastic video
