everything you ever wanted, hoped for and will ever need an aural experience. Simply magic. Way back then, and even better now. Thanks Pat. (Imagine everyone is listening to this on the way home from work).
BTW, about 10 years ago, I saw Pat play with Joshua Redman at the Village Vanguard in NYC. We were right in the front 2 seats and Pat had a basic acoustic guitar with nylon strings - 5 feet away from us--- was like having him playon your front stoop or living room. He did this mind bending intro for the Redman Quartet and it was just absolutely phenomenal. And the acoustics in that basement are triangulated and perfect- see Coltrane- Live at the Village Vanguard as one of many examples.
@lateforthesky61 Wow, that sounds incredible. A truly memorable experience! I've seen Pat live about 4 times over the years at different venues, but never in an intimate setting like that. The outdoor shows were the best.
@lateforthesky61 Wow, that was a wonderfully expressed synopsis of Pat's music. I agree, there is so much feeling and emotion in his music. Sorrow, joy, longing, and fulfillment. You are spot on. What about "If I Could" from the First Circle album? Incredible song...it will have you in tears and not know why you are crying. Thank you for your comment.
@gmcummings Thank you. GMC. This is such special special music. I cant get the chords out of my head. They simply keep endlessly raining on me like cool cleansing showers from above on a warm summers night.
should do video stuff for a living that was fantastic and i hand out compliments like a tycoon hands out raises so its that good take care god bless one of my favorite metheny tunes got about oh fifty but sueno con mexico in top five definitely
@jazzsaavy Thank you for the compliment on the video. It is a truly great song...one I never get tired of listening to. Pat is a phenomenally talented musician and artist. I'm glad you enjoyed viewing the video and my attempt at artistic expression.
First heard this back in the day. When Pat first released "New Chautaqua". What a little slice of heaven this is! If I recall, The whole album was completely SOLO. And that was back when the studios didn't have all the electronic goodies they do now so this was a masterpiece in its time. Sueno Con Mexico is absolutely heavenly! Thank you Pat!
@efergarmx I am glad enjoyed this song and video. I am pleased to know the pictures I selected to accompany this beautiful song are appreciated...especially from people from the Great Country of Mexico! Dios te bendiga para siempre!
Another really old (I bought the record on vinyl long ago) favorite. Kinda subtle and a little repetitive, but it grows on you steadily. I play it in my head alot ...during times of duress. It relaxes me. Just wish I could play guitar so I could see how it feels mechanically. I think it would be a good experience.
Wow this tune reminds me that road on a shiny day I spend miles to get a place I didn't knew.... that was great cuz there was no one for few miles in the road...and of course I was tuning it.... thats when you meet the good part of loneliness.......
wow. so I'm not nuts! My story is too long to post. I'll just say I went thru a bad time in 1986. A cousin loaned me a tape of jazz recorded from radio. I heard an incredible song that made all O.K. Cuz said it was Pat. Never heard of him. I thought cuz was too high to really know for sure. Yet I searched 5 years, bought many albums trying to find the song. I fell in love with his music along the way. The song was-- First Circle! On that day I cried/laughed. Fan ever since. Seen him twice.
I'm glad you were able to be "reunited" with this great song after so many years. First Circle was my first PMG album too...I've been a fan, concert goer and collector of his music ever since. My favorite musician in the world. take care!
I whole heartedly agree with you...Pat has definitely had an unaccountable effect on my life. His music is a gift to the world. Thank you and you're welcome. :)
Breathtaking video -- I thank you --- When I was 15 years old in 1980, I got my first electric guitar I was into Heavy Metal, the salesman threw in a Guitar Player magazine with Pat on the cover---Just from his interview, I had to hear how this man made music I bought New Chatauqua --- God blessed me with Pat's music I saw him 6 or 7 times in the 80's --- Yo vivo en Phoenix y estas imagenes son increibles --- los paisajes m'encantan --- De veras, Yo sueno con Mexico --- Gracias por esto
Thank you for commenting on the video. I'm glad you enjoyed my interpretation of this fantastic Pat Metheny song put to pictures. I have to agree, discovering Pat's music was a TRUE BLESSING for me too. God Bless you friend! :)
Castor...I am glad you enjoyed the video. I have never been to Mexico, but after finding these photos de su país mas hermosa y la gente, I will definitely have to visit one day. Dios te bendiga!
I've always dreamed about this song as it was the description of an upcoming storm. a very smooth intro, and then, suddenly, you get a vivid description of what winds and wutherings mean. Thank you, Pat, from Luca, Italy
I appreciate your comments. The great thing about this song is that it inspires different people in different ways. I have a good friend on YT who uploaded this song, but her interpretation and video has a water/rain theme. Her profile name is jazzinnature081 and the video is "Pat Metheny through my eyes part 1 "Sueno con Mexico" " When you have a chance, I encourage you to check it out. Enjoy!
A gorgeous song like this can be interpreted so many different ways...as you said, looking out the window of a plane, or walking the countryside of Mexico, or a steady summer rain beating on the windowsill...there's no wrong way to "feel" this song...SIMPLY ENJOY IT! :)
Hello...yes, this is a great album, but unfortunately, I do not have it on CD or mp3 to be uploaded. I only have it on vinyl. I saw you posted a comment on another version of this song posted by my good friend, jazzinnature081. Check with her, she might have it...take care
@gmcummings Your question is over a year old, but I didn't see an answer. Nashville tuning replaces the bottom 4 strings (the fattest ones) with the thinner strings from that pair in a 12-string set. The result is that strings 6-3 (EADG) are an octave higher in pitch than standard tuning. Thanks for posting this beautiful tune.
I met Pat Metheny briefly many years ago when I was working as a front desk clerk. His tour bus pulled up, everyone piled out. Mr. Metheny was the only one who wasn't stoned! (That's probably why it's the Pat Metheny Group rather than the Random Stoned Musician Group, right?)
one of my favorite pieces of all time (and this entire album)this piece always reminds me of fall on martha's vineyard and the flocks of geese and other birds gathering together and flying south. it touches my heart every time.

thank-you!!! Hearing this music & watching this video, I am in awe and wonder of the beauty and majesty of God's creation. It just reminds me again that we all share this small, fragile planet, and that we have to take care of it better, and even more importantly, we have to care for each other better.

yes,you are right. guitar is tunned at "nashville tunning" and i recommend that chek your strings before.
Sí,estás en lo correcto, recomiendo que chequees tus cuerdas antes de afinar así.
