The GTI is a .1 second faster in auto than manual.

The only reason that's true is because most german cars set the car's engine and computers to not allow the same mass air curve, air/fuel mixture etc. While this is true for most car makers, Germans are dumb in the sense that the dumb down the manual. Also, that's driven at the manufacturer suggested shift points, which means, more for fuel efficiency while still at speed.

In short, drive them both, and you decide, I'll put my car on the line that anyone says the manual is faster.

the only clutchless sports car id take is an enzo. Ive driven all the other ones, trip, paddles, they are not even close to a real standard car. owning an 06 wrx, ive always respected the evo, but its gone down a few points in my book. i just hope racing in the future doesnt depend on who's got the fastest fingers...

This isn't the EVO, it's the base model Lancer. No evo, no turbo, no 4wd. Their just using the word "evolve" to trick the senses. It's only 152hp.

im a mitsu tech and i just drove the new 2008 lancer gts it is really nice and that new motor is realy sweet but that cvt is just kick ass i mean it is so fast at shifting yet so smooth you cant even feel it when you shift.i dont think its a bad idea (cvt)i mean it is the same thing as a manual tranny but you dont have to step on the clutch which means not having to struggle with pressing and depressing the clutch.plus it is faster too... over all awesome car really recommend it..

The semi-auto box is designed for the EvoX (GSR) road car, cause of its ease to drive and fuel saving of CVT. But for rally driving in Grp N, regs. state that a manual gearbox is required, and an auto in a rally car simply isn't sensible. I believe the following will occur once the Evo goes on sale:

Evo X GSR. CVT Auto (s) Manual (option)

Evo X RS. CVT Auto (na) Manual (s)

this is not the mitsubishi lancer evo X... this is the standard lancer... the EVO X is a Turbocharged-Mivec 2.0L which will produce well over 300HP (est. 340HP) but it will be stated as 280HP (Japanese market regulations). for example the EVO VI produces 320HP but it is stated as 280HP. The car that is shown here is a standard family car based on the same concept as previous years... ranging from 1.3L to 2.0L and the 2.0 turbocharges GSR and EVO series.

i have to say this car sounds amazing, looks freaking sick, and is engineered to the best of possibilities, but ... what the fuck is AUTOMATED MANUAL TRANSMISSION? basically no clutch pedal, WHICH LEAVES OUT THE WHOLE POINT OF OWNING AN EVO. this seems like a boring feature bucause no longer will u be able to rev your engine and just feel that turbo going off, this really really SUCKS,

Did you watch the video, Karebu? There will be a manual for you late adapters who haven't seen a Formula One race since the '80s. Automated manual means paddle-shifted manual where the clutch actuates automatically when you shift. If you choose to rev the crap out of the engine that's your biz.
