in dragracing, you roll through some water at the very beggining of the track, this wets their tires so they can burn out (seen at 0:10) while burning out, they pass the start line, so they back up, after that, they blip the throttle to be sure that their tires are dry, those blips are "dry hops" and are seen at 2:20. The whole point of burn outs is to clean of the slicks (tires) for a nice, smooth run down the track.

I first went drag racing when I was 8 years old in 1976 when Don Garlits came over and I've never looked back. It's been a great 32 years and love it all!
Yeah it's the modern clutches....can't do dry hops. Dry hops hurt the clutch and motor and always did, but drivers couldn't resist doing it in the pre stage build up.

The most annoying thing about attending races are all those DUMB ASSES who always stand up while blocking other fan's views during a race... uggh.

Yeah I agree.....

Yeah. I always say that if everyone would just remain seated, no one would have to stand up.
Of course, standing on the fence always takes precedence over sitting in the grandstands, in my opinion.

They don't dry hop them like that anymore...
gonygonygo 4 years ago
they're not allowed to. the rules forbade it quite some time ago.
