We see a lot more of them today because there are a lot more and much larger planes flying higher than ever. In the 70s and 80s it was not a normal sight to see a passenger jet in the sky but now you can hardly look up without seeing at least one.

Quite simply, NO.

Overall, an increase in carbon dioxide would not support the formation of persistent Contrails. It would have the opposite effect of decreasing their optical Visibility.

This is a well known fact in Meteorology.

Contrails will only occur if the atmospheric temperature surrounding an aircraft is at or below -57 degrees Celsius, and will quickly evaporate in an environment of low relative humidity (dry air).

Above this temperature it is impossible for a Contrail to form.

By definition plane trails that occur above this temperature are not Contrails.

So what are they ?
