  • Thank you very much for posting this video.

It has helped me in preparing these excerpts myself.

  • How do you get your finger rolls to start so quickly? Which do you use: rosin or beeswax? Also, do you wet your finger?

  • Grest job maestro Pirola.

    Thank you very much.

  • My gosh this was played as well as I've ever seen anyone play this! Good for you, 5 stars! Your tambourine skills almost make me ashamed I put up a video of me playing tambourine.

  • what a great post! thank you so much.

  • Fantastic! Finally someone who actually practices the tambourine! Thank you for posting this!

I read some of the comments and saw you use a Grover. I'm looking to get a headed tambourine of some sort (I'm not an orchestral percussionist, but I play commercial/world percussion; I'm primarily a violist though), but I don't want to spend a lot of money since it's not my primary instrument. How much would the average heat-treated Grover Custom Dry cost, and would it be worth the investment?

  • What kind of Grover is that?

I use a black swamp double row chromium 25. It's got a very nice cutting sound, but the response for very quiet playing isn't the

best. It's also kind of bulky/heavy thus making shake rolls a real bother.

And whats your technique for that shake roll at the end?

  • The Tambourine I used in the video is an old Grover Double Row Silver/Bronze. I find the Black Swamp very heavy (for my not so big/strong hands). For very quiet playing (but in general for very detailed playing) I suggest one of the new grover custon dry with heat treated jingles, very good sound, very dry, very lightweight. Ciao! Cris

  • Try also, if you have the opportunity, lefima and kolberg tambourines (with german jingles), best for such orchestral pieces as Mahler Symphonies and loud passages. Ciao! Keep drumming... Cris

  • Where are you from garytakesabath?

  • I'm from Central New Jersey

  • Ciao Cris, trovo la tua lesson molto utile.

Ci potresti dare anche qualche dritta sulla aragonaise?

    Giulio

  • This is my second favorite peice from Bizet

  • OMG! I was just practicing this today!

  • WOW! Where are you from? I'm curious about where my mini-video lessons are watched... best! Cristiano

  • Hey man, I'm from Asheville, North Carolina. I am a Percussion Major at Brevard College, so I practice my fair share of orchestral excerpts. Your technique is incredible on tambourine...I never thought to use anything other than the thumb when playing until I saw your video!

  • Hi. Try wetting your fingertip with a little saliva first!

  • Try to find the right angle between your middle finger (skin under your nail) and the head and have fun with it! Where are you from? Ciao! Cristiano

  • wow, impressive. i had no idea all that work went into just one of the instruments in the danse boheme.

  • Hi! Thank you for your comment... also take a look to Lesson n°2... keep drumming... Cristiano

  • grande cris.ottima tecnica.

    umbe

  • Now *this* is boring; stiff, repetitive, and the music is entirely swishy...

  • Thank you for your boring comment... ciao! Cris

  • Yes; very nice! ;) a boring response to a boring comment, to stiff, boring playing...lots of boring to go around...thanks for your boring part, did you practice? You're quite good at being boring. ;)

  • Sorry but I don't understand... what is boring? Are you a professional percussionist? Are you interested in frame drums? If not is very obvious that you find it boring... let me know... Cris

  • Thank you for posting. Please put more videos showing another classical techniques! It would be very interesting. I know riq and basic things about Brazilian pandeiro and South Italian tambourine (from one workshop with Alessandra Belloni), but I have no idea about classical tambourine. A beautiful and difficult instrument!

  • Attention please! Rate this video with all the 5 stars! Dumtakadum74 is now the best italian (probably not only) tambourine player! Tradition & Originality at the same time! All we want another video! ... like a JEDI of tambourine...

  • Marvellous !!!

  • A perfect mind on a perfect technique!

  • nice technique.i hope i can do the same one day.Nikolas

  • Ciao Cristiano, no i am just a beginner.I live in Switzerland but am an international who loves all drums and many styles. Keep well!

  • Great!!! Thanks allot

  • Ciao Elisa! Thanks for the comment on youtube. Where are you from? Are you a classical percussionist? Let me know which other orchestral tambourine excerpts you are looking for. I hope to add lesson n°2 soon. Best wishes! Cristiano
