You remind me of something that happened in the last days of my drinking, when I realized that I was still calling and thinking of myself as a funny person, and yet I wasn't really laughing much anymore and rarely if ever making anyone else laugh. I was living the life of that guy in the mirror, and it wasn't me. Only in retrospect do I see it as a moment of clarity.

I think it's worth remembering that many people who lie believe what they're saying when they lie. They shouldn't, but they do.
