But then came college, I discovered Bruce, his lyrics. I still love U2, but The Boss, is without peer. You know what I'm talking about if you've read his lyrics. If you've tried for even one day to write something meaningful, you will understand his absolutely effortless, unpretentious and unique genius.
I love U2. They're my my childhood. The Boss is a prophet, a religion, with a voice that like all good things takes a little getting used to.
This is a true appreciation of both singers, nothing else. It's a U2 concert, so obviously The Boss is gonna get a big cheer when he sings. Otherwise U2 outsell Bruce in every other way. Google the facts...sceptics!!1
People comparing Bruce singing to Bono - first of all two different styles - second Bruce is ten years older then Bono, go listen to Springsteen on Born to Run or DOTEOT and compare voices.
Third - Bono idolizes Bruce - I doubt it's the other way around.
This is one of those MAGIC MOMENTS in GREAT ROCK MUSIC where two GIANTS do the ROD STEWART/JEFF BECK ARRANGEMENT of a cover of THE IMPRESSIONS 60's hit. Bono's ohhohohoh is a vocalization of JEFF BECK's guitar RIFF in the song. You won't find Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga doing this kind of MAGIC!
jenizaro, you obviously have no clue what you're talking about - bruce long preceded bono as a rock star and will long outlive him in terms of influence - it's not even a fair comparison. and don't even get me started on their relative class and humility - bono doesn't have an ounce of either compared to bruce. and if you want crowd participation, try seeing a bruce show. he taught everyone how it's done. glad you think bono's so magnificent, but there's a reason the crowd chants "bruuuuuuce".
@alyse1969 I agree with you 100% Don't ever compare Bruce with Bono.Although both of them are living LEGENDS in their own mite,Bruce is the ultimate BOSS,the uncrowned king of the rock and will continue to do so.Don't ever compare
@alyse1969 well, well, well i guess you must be american, jejjee. NOO ROCK BAND HAS EVER TOPPED U2s ZOO TV. for sure hommie, NOOOOO ROCK BAND DID THATTTTTTTTTTT BEFOREEEE!!!. AS I SAID BEFORE, BONOS VOICE SOUNDS HEAVENLY, BRUCES VOICE SOUNDS LIKE IF HE HAS SMOKED CIGARRETES ALL HIS LIFE, PLEASEEEEE DONT YOU DARE TO COMPARE BONOS VOICE WITH BRUCEEEEEEE. APART FROM THAT, THIS SHOW WAS HELD IN EEUU. BRUCE WAS AT HOME. BUT BONO, HE IS A WORLWIDE ICON SINGER.
SIMPLY THE BEST, WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT THIS GUY (BONO), HE PROVES THAT HES GOT A HEAVENLY VOICE, AND NOT JUST THAT, THERES MORE.... HE CAN MAKE A FANTASTIC SONG INTO A WAY BETTER, ONLY BY ADDING THE OHOHOOHOOHO, ISN IT GREAT???. THE OHOHOHOHO MAKES THE AUDIENCE PARTICIPATE IN THE SHOW, BESIDES BONOS HUMILITY, HE TREATS BRUCE LIKE HE IS THE ROCK STARRRR, BUT NONONONONONO, THE REAL ONE IS BONO.
@kfire9922 damien marley and some of his brothers opened the show...I was right behind the stage when I saw patti and bruce walking underneath...they walked right up the steps in front of me...and bruce was his typical rockin mess :)
I was at this show! I was at the U2 concert the night before at the same stadium, and he invited a stranger out of the audience to join them on stage. This night, he said, "who wants to come on stage and play my guitatr, does Bruce Springsteen wanna play my guitar?!" I could not believe it!!
I was there for this concert, and the place went wild when he appeared on the stage with his musical friends for this rendition of "People Get Ready." The biggest and best band with the hometown music genius= great concert.
Don't know, but I'm pretty sure that in Berlin just two months ago, Bono had the same guitar... well of course, there are many green guitars like that :)
So glad I found this video, as I was there and this just reminds me of what a great night it was. Damien Marley opened for them also....Great night all around!!
Nice, but would have been better had the blow-off not been chopped at the end. I'll prefer to think the person with the camera had the battery die on him/her.

What's funny is this was a Sunday & Monday night pair of shows and this happened on the Monday night. People who went to the Sunday show were soooo bummed! God bless Bono, God bless Brooooooooce.....!
GREAT BRUCE VIDEO!! I have a teen-oriented, hockey themed book coming out in October which has over 25 Bruce song and characters from Bruce songs, references (the hockey team is named the Magic Rats, the lead character plays hockey "undeneath Abrams Bridge" etc)!!

What p---es me off is that I missed what was probably the first time they performed together at old JFK stadium(Joshua Tree) because a girl in our party was understandably anxious to get back to her newborn kid. That came back when Springsteen inducted U2 to the RRHOF. AAaarghh!!!

He's just trying to get the world's governments to act responsibly.........maybe he should lay in bed and smoke crack all day like the rest..........your a genius
I love it when the music nazis come out of the woodwork. I have been a musician for 20+ years, everyone knows Curtis Mayfield did this originally with the Impressions. If you can't see or hear this is incredible I can't help you. They are playing a packed stadium like it is a backyard get together. This is like a jam session you have with friends.
well then don't put the word "nazi" in it, please; that would be so nice.. and apropriate: I don't see how you can asociate "nazis" with something positive.. or, did I miss something?
"nazi" small n has become synonymous with extremist. If you prefer I can use the word "elitist". My point was to say how much I enjoyed this performance of a great song by musicians that can make a stadium seem like a small get together, a very difficult thing to accomplish.
I forgot how good is was! I was there at the tip of the ellipse front row sadly though Ithe night before i was front center inside the ellipse right in front of Bono's mic.....I had fun with the great fans!...I can't wait for them to come back so i get to see everybody again!
Your right U2 and Bruce & the E street bands should do a world tour. Those tickets would sell out in about 30 seconds!! My two favourites artists of all time- fucking class

My goodness, you're talking about music Nazis here?? Whhhhhere?? You shure you understand everything that's written, and use the right words?
henrijoel 4 years ago
I don't know if you understood my statement but it was a complement on the performance. If you didn't think was great well, that is your opinion.
dean1541 4 years ago
well then don't put the word "nazi" in it, please; that would be so nice.. and apropriate: I don't see how you can asociate "nazis" with something positive.. or, did I miss something?
henrijoel 4 years ago
"nazi" small n has become synonymous with extremist. If you prefer I can use the word "elitist". My point was to say how much I enjoyed this performance of a great song by musicians that can make a stadium seem like a small get together, a very difficult thing to accomplish.

allrighty then, thanx for the explanation, and i appologize for my judgement..
cheers,

nazi implies a heavy handed megalomaniacal zeal. Elitist just implies snobbery.
The Grammar Nazi has spoken!!!!

Your right U2 and Bruce & the E street bands should do a world tour. Those tickets would sell out in about 30 seconds!! My two favourites artists of all time- fucking class
