  • This is more from the perspective of the angels flying overhead than from the labour ward.

  • A little piece of Heaven on this Earth. 'Martina', I think from the same album, makes time stand still, it is so beautiful.

  • by far best performing of this song!

  • I keep coming back to this.

  • I've been a huge Bill Evans fan since I discovered jazz, but I just found out about Burrell. His style would of been perfect in that band Miles put together for Kind of Blue, so I wondered if Burrell ever worked with Evans. Its just as I imagined - two highly nuanced, introspective, and lyrical players coming together. What an experience.

  • Qué más se puede sentir?

  • very good

  • wonderful. maybe the best performance of this song?

  • @KhanShin you know...it IS arguable...but I'm afraid I might have to agree with you...seeing Kenny and Evans together on this most wonderful of tunes is completely monumental. An absolutely brilliant performance.

  • Burrell is a genious!!!

  • Wonderful post. Thanks. Do you have more songs from this session?

  • Thanks for sharing this. Beautiful!

  • One small heart, one pair of eyes, one work of art, here in my arms...here he lies...!

  • bobjazz thanks for this. do you or anyone else knowif there is video of the rest of this set? bill was the greatest.

  • @wesisabeast

I worked at Montreux for over ten years (and also played there twice) and I'm absolutely certain that it would have been filmed - but this is a solo clip from a compilation TV prog in the UK about Montreux.

But I'm always looking out for new stuff ..... any you never know ....!

Bill Evans

  • Check Bill and Jim Hall undercurrents. I was never a Jim Hall fan (respect.. but not a fan) but that album is amazing. They play off each other so well.

  • You can hear them thinking.

  • Bill Evans & Kenny Burrell jazz genius duo...

  • Yes, snaaptaker, a million thanks to Thad Jones. Evans accompanied Tony Bennett on the same song in a duet album called Together Again. I'll sing it on my mom's 75th birthday.

  • While Bill and Kenny did a lovely job here, can we also not give a big THANK YOU to Thad Jones, who wrote this truly beautiful tune?!

  • Wow, absolutely beautiful.....

  • Beauitful music! Sorry we lost Bill Evans so early. What great chord creation, hope all the players will pick these up.

  • Whew. The vibes of this tune. Of couse the players brought it to life.I'm going to have to learn this tune. Trying to be hip and not learn great standards as great as this is stupid.

  • estoy descubriendo el jazz y no me cansaré de escuchar este tema, nuncaaaaaaaaaa. I'm discovering jazz and i will nener never be tired for listening this song

  • What a gem, lyric jazz at its best. Two masters working together. What a gift.

  • Love the tempo of this version and so much space to let the beauty sing through. Truly inspiring, nice to see Bill enjoying the music so much, and Kenny. Great job

  • what a perfect tempo

  • Two great masters at work!

  • What a great tube!!!!! This inspires!

Try to play Bill Evans on a Hammond Organ.

    Bob

    Laguna Woods, Cal.

  • The interplay and communication between these two is amazing.

  • Muy bueno, muy bueno...

  • Wow!! Kenny Burrell & Bill Evans together! What a treat! Thanks for posting this.

  • Masterful.

  • What a match! Two of the most romantic, melodic figures in all of jazz doing what they do best!

  • Fabulous. Makes me cry too. I have many versions on my iPod. This one is pure magic.

  • Thanks for the post.

  • In all the recordings I have of Bill Evans, he plays such immensely thick chords yet never drowns out the other musicians or gets bogged down in excessive harmony. The melody is always clear and in the foreground while he adds layers and layers of nuanced harmonies. Genius.

  • very well put

  • @gabeuop79 I wouldn't say the melody is always clear, for instance in ``all of you´´ or ``sugar plum´´ but don't get me wrong bill is one of the greatest pianists of all time.

  • @Auraruth8 I guess that´s what jazz is all about. Look for My Funny Valentine from Keith Jarret´s. The melody is never there, but the persona and essence of the song are. Peace.

  • @gabeuop79 because Bill Evans was a genius. (as you and well all know haha) He had that Debussy touch with the jazz knowledge. Totally different and sick.

  • @gabeuop79 you're right about genius. I love all the jazz greats, but Bill's soft classical touch along with his emotion always kills me. Even when he goes for the bebop, he still has that terrific soft feeling.

  • I once read some where Miles Davis asking Bill Evans> How does it feel to be a genius.

One of those tune thats hard to shake of off ur head.

    Dreamy n sleepy.

    5*

  • Yeah. I often wonder, how would it feel to be a genius like Bill. Even for a day. Just a single day.

  • Lovely ending with bill smiling!

  • Ah..I love this song. I just leared this on the guitar. So beautiful.

  • Outstanding. Just calms me down.

  • no words

  • i just cry

  • This has got to be the most beautiful tune I've ever heard. These guys are real poets.

  • incredibly and unbelievabley beautiful...
