I'm actually into both...=0 hahah remember, a guitarist must be versatile! many people will say that cedar will be better for fingerpicking ( I feel that it kinda works like a compressor, you get a boost with quieter overtones and you get a volume ceiling), however, I find that spruce works better for me as I enjoy listening to those overtones ring! ...And I pair it with mahogany back and sides, I enjoy its high/midrange-y voice! I say try them both out!
@gavenid mm its actually bearclaw spruce... sorry =). However, I do own a cedar top guitar, with IR back & sides, it does not scratch a lot - but because it has a glossy finish. This one has a very light satin finish, which I actually prefer.
I have heard that satin finish cedar tops can get pretty banged up really easily, as it is a softer wood that spruce, though - you should be fine as long as you take care of it!
