  • ...wait...WHAT? what am i watching? oAo this is amazing!

  • SCIENCE

  • Hmm, I think the floppies would handle part of Want You Gone pretty well.

  • @blenderpanzi Check my channel and see if you're right. =)

  • this is what the defective turrets would have sounded like... but its still beautiful

  • If my computer starting making this sounds, I wouldn't even be mad when it would start to smoke.

  • I always wondered what happened to floppy drives when they became obsolete once flash drives replaced them. nice to see that they're doing ok.

  • During the pauses, those are actually score breaks in the song. So you can also combine the 2 parts separated by the break and shorten the song in the process. :D

  • this is my favorite one BY FAR

  • Is it easy to do this?

  • @TheCJiK Yes-ish. =P I've got a tutorial video (link in the doobly-doo), and there's no complicated skills required to get things going. That doesn't mean you won't run into a snag here or there, but at least half a dozen people have got it working without too much trouble.

  • The iPOD ruined this, otherwise <3

  • @Ryanteck Why..?

  • :D WONDERFUL

  • This is absolutely perfect. Oh. It sounds like a robotic harpsichord. It's better than the version in the game from both an aesthetic and a realistic standpoint. If turrets tried to sing, it would sound like this.

  • ;( i so GlaD :( so beautiful

  • You should use a hard drive for the vocals...

  • When i saw this i was like HOLY Shi... Oh not alowed to say that. But realy! what the Fu... nope cant say that either.

  • Glorious.

  • Man what the fuck is going on here. It sounds good but I don't understand.

  • Better than the live performance related video that brought me here. You deserve a cake.

  • Pure genius, sir.

  • I only think: WHAT THE FUCK?! Awesome!

  • This is SO awesome !

  • do want ringtone

  • seriously how the fuck did you do that XD!?

  • You are a god sir

  • This is simply stunning!

  • You should make that other portal 2 song.

     watch?v=unHYQIde4k8

  • "Art of the Dress" from MLP: FiM?

  • @lolitylols

    I'm a brony too,but no.

    Just no.

    NO.

  • For some reason, now this is the way I picture the Turrets would have actually sounded.

  • Can you post the midi file of your songs please!

  • Genius.

  • This is so beautiful.

  • could you do a doctor who theme song using floppies?

  • WOW

  • :D

  • 3 dislikes? youtube is CRASHING!!!!!

  • This is just so amazingly appropriate.

  • Hey dude, excellent stuff, i like turret opera too, PORTAL FAN :D

  • @Sammy1Am Skyrim main theme. That is all.

  • this is so cool! :D

  • Turrets run on '98

  • that would be the singing turret's prototype :D

  • GLaDOS would be proud. Would probably want to test you though.

  • How on Earth do you program those? It's really amazing!

  • Would it all be possible to do a Video tutorial on how to set this all up? It seems so complicated just by reading.

  • you need a 5,25" or a 8" discdrive for the bas part :)

  • @mikgus I did a quick search, and 8" drives cost like $400 now! I suppose no one really makes them any more, so they've become very rare. (I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a 5.25" though)

  • @Sammy1Am About a month ago, I threw away a 5.25" drive :( Wish I'd known someone could use it...

  • @Sammy1Am

    Please do RobotsFTW.

  • @Sammy1Am

    5.25" = $30-$50 on ebay

  • @Sammy1Am my friend found one... a 8" drive, he destroyed it..

  • @Sammy1Am, I've seen a 8'' drive on Ebay for $50. Go for it!

  • @mikgus Send him an eight inch if you want him to have one.

  • This is pure awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • @kingcrimson234 I find your comment extremely disturbing. Also, please no shouting, use your inside (the Internet) voices.

  • @Sammy1Am fine i removed it, you're no fun.

  • @kingcrimson234 Heh, I was (mostly) joking, but thanks. =)

  • Brohoof !

  • @ALEX250692 I shall partake in the brohoofing

  • Congratulations. You broke the internet.

  • You've listed the chip that you're using, and you are obviously using floppy drives, but could you possibly list all the hardware you would need for the drive setup, possibly including drive model? (I know programming and computer hardware, but I'm kind of lost on stuff like this.) Much thanks.

  • @theclinger To my knowledge, any floppy drive with the 32-pin IDC connector on the back will work just fine (i.e. not really old Macintosh floppy drives). I just used an ATX power supply for power, and some copper wire for the connections (phone wire first, then Cat5).

  • @Sammy1Am Thanks. :D

  • And the nerd insid cries tears of joy :')

  • excellent beyond description. perfect choice of a song.

  • Putain, hallucinant!

  • :,) beautiful.

  • So the turrets had floppy drive inside of their body? o_O

  • This. Is. Brilliant! *kicks external HD of desk*

  • This is what cylons, skynet, and glados listen to when they feel down.

  • I love the sound of the good ol' floppy disk drives. You don't see those much anymore, so whenever I get to use and hear them, I embrace the moment to the fullest. And luckily it's not over in just a few seconds since floppy drives aren't known for their awesome reading and writing speeds. xD Thank you for your creative work and providing this guy with a little bit of nostalgia! Great job! :)

  • how?

  • Comment removed

  • Cave,Caroline, and Glados would be proud of you

  • Simply beautifull! ;____;

  • Lament of the Obsolete

  • The fact they are like the turrets, as in the way they move while they play, makes it even better xD

  • I love portal :D

  • I'll write you some original composition. I'm a professional composer, I'll work for free for this awesome idea. Actually, there aren't my work on internet, but I can show you some of mine privately, as they were performed live but never recorded. I work with classical music, and this is pretty common.

So, please, contact me, I'd love to compose for you.

  • @TheMarioBrothers I'd have messaged you privately, but a lot of people seem to be asking this. I would love to record any original/cover compositions anyone wants to send me. The floppy drives play MIDI files with up to 8 channels, 1 channel per drive; they have a range of C1 to B4 (four octaves).

If anyone wants to give it a go, shoot me a message with a MIDI file and I'll record it.

  • Is it sad that I watched the 'Animal King turret' ,floppy The whole time, looking at it's sad eyes?

  • And this goes in my favorites... :)

  • Amazing

  • Can you do reconstructing science?

  • It'd be great if you managed to do the Battlefield theme song, and as you're using floppy drives, it'd sound very similar to the newest one.

  • It's so.. beautiful..

  • Meanwhile, in a 70's testing office...

  • Can you do the Moon Theme from Ducktales :D?

  • Do Stairway to Heaven...

Then your floppy discs will cry out in amazement.

  • one person has no soul

  • These do strangely remind me of the turrets, the movement is just the their turrets retracting guns

  • This is the best thing I've seen in my entire life (up to this point). What a blast from the past for me :D

  • you should add the looping glitch to the video

  • Whoah.

  • The 90's (tears) so beautiful

  • What's the range of pitches these can perform?

  • @ivolol You know, to be honest, I haven't actually experimented with limits. Right now the software limits the range from C1 to C5 (four octaves). You can hear that they tend to get a lot softer on the high-end though, so even if they can move faster, it won't be as useful for music. Theoretically there's no low-limit, but after a while the clicking wouldn't sound like a single note anymore.

  • Goddess' ballad from legend of Zelda skyward sword

  • This is amazing.

  • Wow. that is awesome!

  • Wow amazing. :D

  • actually love it :')

  • this sounds real authentic

  • I am still trying to scoop my jaw out from deep underground from the sheer awesomeness of this video. Bravo, my man, bravo.

  • No dislikes, just as it should be

  • turrets attack! D:

  • Insta-subscribe!

  • OMG! this is fantastic!

  • Is this for sale? It is so great, I must have it.

  • @mpme1509 It is not, sadly, for sale. However, you can check out the link in the doobly-doo for the software I used, and shoot me a message if you've got any questions on the specifics. =)

  • @mpme1509 It dosen't look too impossible to set up on your own. I'll report back if I ever get around to it.

  • Next they'll shoot us.

  • Those read/write heads really reminded me of the turrets...

  • Play some Zelda songs!

  • @timleicand @MrSolidSnake745 has the Overworld Theme played on his floppy drives (using the same software with some of his own modifications): /watch?v=FnP6boE4TNg

  • I love the internet...

  • wow!!!!! we need to show this to valve!!

  • That is amazing, this should be featured somewhere.

  • needs more views

  • this video better not get a dislike

  • You should totally do one of the guitar songs from S.T.A.L.K.E.R!

  • Kinda ironic. An ipod touch next to a bunch of floppy disks...

  • The Hard Drives of the Turrets...

    Creepy kinda Awesome! :D

  • wow

  • I salute you, you amazing person, you.

  • omg, this is seriously kick ass!!!

  • epic

  • cool

  • Dude, you now have got to do One-Winged Angel from Final Fantasy 7 now after doing this one :)

  • Try and do the full version :)

  • This is fucking awesome

  • I love you for this.

  • you know the dial up sound ? I was wondering if you could play that for fun :)

  • @aly369 Lol, that would be hilarious. I'll try that soon.
