My interpretation is it's kind of a farewell, like at the end of a good show the audience applauds, the entire day in the video appears to be a flashback over parts of his life, he is wearing his ruined jacket and has blood on his head throughout. It's not reality, the people are applauding to say, well done, good life, goodbye, almost applauding the end of his performance. :)

Just to explain, from what ive read/heard about the video, The video explains what the character wishes the day he died was like. Sort of like a "If i could have done things differently scenario". The torn jacket and blood on the characters head throughout the video are indicators as to what is going to happen, even though everyone is oblivious to it.
