I'm an IDPA competitor and safety officer. I like the concept you have here of a shooting club. With all due respect though, having a shooter turn up range with a loaded firearm and run is dangerous! The shooter here seemed to have good muzzle control but the risk to people up range is too high for my liking. Stay safe.
@socom308 The Defensive Shooting Club teaches techniques to safely handle and manipulate a firearm in defensive situations where there could be people around or if the student is moving within a group of people. As long as the four rules of firearm safety are maintained we can go beyond what others are doing in such cases as the IDPA. In the real world there is no "up range" but there is a safe way to handle a firearm in any given set of circumstance and that is what is stressed.
@pwenzlik Fair enough. I've been thinking about getting something like this started at my local club where I'm on the board of directors. Do you use a shot timer and "compete" against one another or just run the stages as quickly as you can? How about loading guns to their intended full capacity, prohibit "competition oriented" guns and gear ect. ? Do you have a web site? Thanks.
@socom308 we use a lot of tools to try to increase the stress of the situation. Shot timers are used and we do mark down the times and have friendly competitions too. We run through the stages as quickly as we can while maintaining proper tactically sound techniques.You can use any gear that you want but is it going to be practical in a defensive situation? The Defensive Shooting Club doesn't have an official web site it has a yahoo group and on my blog I document what was learned throughout day
