  • I've been to this concert in 1978. I was 14 and it was one of the milestones in my life. I remember when he said words "Tenesee free" and just by saying the word free there was a 5 minute standing ovation... He was more than just a musician, he brought hope to all of us behind the iron courtain.

  • It's tragic what RA did to her. She was already suffering from it when this was made. The puffiness in her face is from the Prednizone she was taking for it.

  • Mooi liedje...! Goed gezongen...!

  • Now this is what I call Country Music, not like what is called Country today!

  • To say that Anita Carter could have been a major country music star is such an understatement. She could have been a supernova!

  • Anita truly had an absolutely gorgeous voice. Really, one of the purest, most beautiful voices I've ever heard. Rest in Peace, lovely Anita.

  • wow anita looking fantastic and sounding superb yet again seems every time i'm on u tube now i end up listening to every anita clip i can find thank you for the posting, this is a real gem

  • thank you for posting this video anita looking and sounding wonderfully superb yet again

  • .....best voice in the history of music.

  • @Jrebindixie Certainly one of them. My favorite female voices include the likes of Dame Joan Sutherland, Marilyn Horne, Maria Callas....and Anita Carter

  • Beautiful song well done by a wonderful singer!!

  • This is one lady that never did enough credit for her voice. In my humble opinion she was one of the best singers in Country Music if not the all time best. And I don't say that lightly.

  • I love her so much, its really wierd....

  • What a voice!!! I've only started listening to country music and I've started at the beginning and I'm so glad I did. What an amazing talent; the whole Carter family, blessed!

  • Such a beautiful gal and such a great voice!

  • Oh Anita, Anita please marry me!

  • Never heard it sung by a girl before. She does a tremendous job on it. A beautiful voice.

  • Yes, Wagadman, the title " Appalachian Angel" certainly fits this beautiful lady with the golden ringing voice! Like others, I had a crush on her since I first heard her as a small child. Loved all the Carters, but Anita was "The Angel". They just don't grow 'em like that any more!

  • i love you anita. why couldn't i have lived in your time!

  • I am shocked, never really appreciated her. Great Marty Robbins, and she is as good in this song.

  • Anita sure was the prettiest of all the sisters! Does anyone know who the lead guitarist was? He sure knew how to make that guitar twang razor sharp!

  • The guitarist is Jerry Hensley (hope I spelled that right) who played with the Johnny Cash Show back in the mid to late '70s probably up until the early '80s. He filled in on guitar when Carl Perkins left the Cash show around 1975. I recall hearing that Jerry was a Carter Family relative but I'm not sure. Hope that helps.

  • i would suggest getting all of her albums, amazing stuff.. really

  • What a beautiful voice.I wish I had heard

her ealier. thanks for posting and

    greetings from Poland.

  • The voice, and face, of an angel! LOVE and miss Anita, even if I never got to meet you. One day, We will get to sit in Audience of the whole Carter Family, Johnny Cash, friends and family alike, what a day that will be.

  • Pretty voice.....much better than June....I like this song...A Marty Robbins favorite, too

  • Anita Carter, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams.. my 4 favourite "real" country stars. I'm in love with this lady

  • Whenever I need comfort I watch one of the video clips or listen to a record of Anita Carter and quickly am lifted up as if to heaven for a moment in time listening to her sweet voice. A beautiful angel with one of the greatest voices of our time. I can't help but wrap myself in the thrill of listening to her crystaline passionate renditions. I have and always will be partial to the beautiful Anita Carter. Loved her since age of 5. The title of "Appalachian Angel" is Anita Carter.

  • She had a wonderful voice, I listen to this video often.

  • She played bass on Chet's "Main Street Breakdown" in 1949.

  • Ms Carter is too good for that band and 'guitarist'.

  • I cannot listen to Anita without tearing up. thanks for posting this one.

  • looking for billy furys version but anita is superb, thank you for this.

  • I Love the whole Carter family, but she does a great voice!

  • The greatest female singer of our time, bar none!

  • love her singing.......... one of the greater voices in country music

  • I never realized just how beautiful her voice until you tube. Thanks for the post.

  • This is just the greatest ever if only she had lived to an older age than 66 fate has a funny way of working

  • A friend dated June when she lived in Richmond and attended John Marshall High School. The Carters were on the "Old Dominion Barn Dance" on WRVA radio 1140 am.

  • Awsome! she chills my spine every time I hear her sing. June had a more gutsy voice and was more of a comedian, but boy, oh boy, Anita had the pipes!

  • if i could go back in time i would come back to this concert to meet the carter sisters especialy anita

  • dont know why we dont hear more like this ..incredeble

  • Theres something really mysterious as to why Anita didnt have better coverage, better material, and didnt record a truckload of music. I just dont get it, find a better country and or folk voice, cant be done. Someone should write a book about her.

  • I couldn't agree more Doug, only since YouTube did I hear of Anita (my ignorance), on this clip she is gorgeous and as everyone says a voice of an angel, truly great.

But like you say a great voice like this and to think of the crap that's out there getting lots of credit etc.

  • Country perfect voice!

  • Saw the Carter family perform in Salem Ark when the girls were in their twenties. Anita's voice is awesome!

  • the voice of an angel.

  • is that same anita carter singing with hank williams.if so she must have been some young than. she looks gorgeous here.and what a voice.

  • Holy jumpin what a voice

  • No singers out there today that can touch her. What avoice.

  • That is why Anita was known in the group as "The Voice"

  • This is really a beautiful clip of Anita singing. You can listen to her solo albums on her Yahoo Music Group - Anita Carter Remembered.

  • Anita was my favorite!

  • Thanks! This is gorgeous! What a voice!

  • how is i possible that anyone could sing like that? shes just amazing!

  • Anita is with her mother and sisters and Johnny now, singing as she was meant to, like an angel

  • Anita just gives me chills with this song. How I wish they would have had her do more solo numbers in the concerts. Thank you johnnyfan.

  • Anita was lovely and very talented.

The words in this song are poignant and hold dear memories for me.

God Bless The One for whom they are intended.

  • Anita Carter was one of the most talented sopranos of her time, but was seldom recorded as a solo performer. Thanks for posting this rare clip.

  • She's Wonderful!!
