I've been to this concert in 1978. I was 14 and it was one of the milestones in my life. I remember when he said words "Tenesee free" and just by saying the word free there was a 5 minute standing ovation... He was more than just a musician, he brought hope to all of us behind the iron courtain.
It's tragic what RA did to her. She was already suffering from it when this was made. The puffiness in her face is from the Prednizone she was taking for it.
wow anita looking fantastic and sounding superb yet again seems every time i'm on u tube now i end up listening to every anita clip i can find thank you for the posting, this is a real gem
@Jrebindixie Certainly one of them. My favorite female voices include the likes of Dame Joan Sutherland, Marilyn Horne, Maria Callas....and Anita Carter
This is one lady that never did enough credit for her voice. In my humble opinion she was one of the best singers in Country Music if not the all time best. And I don't say that lightly.
What a voice!!! I've only started listening to country music and I've started at the beginning and I'm so glad I did. What an amazing talent; the whole Carter family, blessed!
Yes, Wagadman, the title " Appalachian Angel" certainly fits this beautiful lady with the golden ringing voice! Like others, I had a crush on her since I first heard her as a small child. Loved all the Carters, but Anita was "The Angel". They just don't grow 'em like that any more!
The guitarist is Jerry Hensley (hope I spelled that right) who played with the Johnny Cash Show back in the mid to late '70s probably up until the early '80s. He filled in on guitar when Carl Perkins left the Cash show around 1975. I recall hearing that Jerry was a Carter Family relative but I'm not sure. Hope that helps.
The voice, and face, of an angel! LOVE and miss Anita, even if I never got to meet you. One day, We will get to sit in Audience of the whole Carter Family, Johnny Cash, friends and family alike, what a day that will be.
Whenever I need comfort I watch one of the video clips or listen to a record of Anita Carter and quickly am lifted up as if to heaven for a moment in time listening to her sweet voice. A beautiful angel with one of the greatest voices of our time. I can't help but wrap myself in the thrill of listening to her crystaline passionate renditions. I have and always will be partial to the beautiful Anita Carter. Loved her since age of 5. The title of "Appalachian Angel" is Anita Carter.
A friend dated June when she lived in Richmond and attended John Marshall High School. The Carters were on the "Old Dominion Barn Dance" on WRVA radio 1140 am.
Theres something really mysterious as to why Anita didnt have better coverage, better material, and didnt record a truckload of music. I just dont get it, find a better country and or folk voice, cant be done. Someone should write a book about her.
I couldn't agree more Doug, only since YouTube did I hear of Anita (my ignorance), on this clip she is gorgeous and as everyone says a voice of an angel, truly great.
But like you say a great voice like this and to think of the crap that's out there getting lots of credit etc.

I am shocked, never really appreciated her. Great Marty Robbins, and she is as good in this song.

Anita sure was the prettiest of all the sisters! Does anyone know who the lead guitarist was? He sure knew how to make that guitar twang razor sharp!
