After the band stopped, Les Gray started some time later a new band. The guitarist at that time was Nick Ritchie. He later played in a band called island in The Netherlands. We became friends. He returned to the UK about 11 years ago, came back to the Netherlands and finally again returned to the UK (as far as I know). Can anybody help me trying to track him down? Nick had a girlfriend in Nijmegen (Holland) called Petra. I cannot find her as well. Please help me? Thanks in advance.
I never knew this song existed, my boyfriend was showing me crazy, now I see they have my name! So fitting lmao, the crazy song I mean hmmm ehehe. :-0
Mud, Sweet, Glitter, T-Rex, it were all great bands and all had their own Quallity's !! Let's join that great music!! (don't forget Suzi Q and Slade !! ).
why should tamla motown be seen as timeless classic so was a lot of seventies pop like this , there;s a lot of skill involved in the writing , production and playing , of this stuff , mud were great
Have I slagged off your fave band by any chance?..so sorry. but face facts...Mud were just an ordinary band who needed other people to write songs for them...how many hits did they have after they ditched ChinniChap...1..or 2?
Yes I know most bands start in pubs, but as my comment said..they got lucky, many pub bands don't !!
Elvis was never an ordinary singer..but he was also never a prolific songwriter..he wrote maybe 2 songd in his career, so he needed songwriters,,,as did bands like Mud and The Sweet..Suzi Quatro etc, ask yourself a question..how many bands had hits after chinn?Chapman stopped writing for them?
What I'm saying is..Mud were a run of the mill pub band who got lucky when Chinn Chapman started writing for them..they relased singles before that happened and they bombed!
many pub bands aren't good enough to get lucky even with the right songs written for them, mickey most wouldn't have got chin / chapman to write for them if he didn't see that they had that extra something
Mud / Sweet /Glitter`s careers were all over in the 70`s because they were funtime glam acts who had limited hit single shelf life careers . Nothing to do with who wrote their songs. Ordinary bands dont get 3 No 1 hits !
But of course you wont agree as only your opinion is right ! LOL
IBut is it coincidence that Mud and Sweet both had hits with Chinn Chapman, then started to write their own songs with limited sucess leading to..particularly in Mud's case... obscurity?
Therefore it obviously IS to do with who writes their songs.
At one stage you could have classed Bowie as a funtime glam act, but he had the talent to write his own songs, and had hits for many years,
i'm surprised you look at the mud vids as you so obviously don't like them? you'd have to ask mickey most what the extra something was that he saw, maybe some if it is showing up in robs songwriting now though, he's doing well with that...but hey good job we don't all like the same things, gg was repetitive drivel, hated sweet myself. slade ok wizzard ok. trex never did 'get ' them.......hence why i don't go look at their vids on youtube,
I've just looked at the one Mud video..that was enough.
As you say, we don't all like the same music, i happen to think that T.Rex..or Marc Bolan..was the best of Glam Rock, but you'll disagree so we'll leave it there.
in a way i agree with you there actually, i went through my teens into my 20's in the 70's and remember it well, as i said i never really 'got' t rex but we did have their records in the house courtesy of my older and younger sister, (had to break the news of bolans death to the older one as she hadn't seen the news, really upset her) but i do think that they kick started the whole glam rock thing off, so good on them for that...........
T Rex & Slade & Gary Glitter - their hit making years all but finished in the glam rock era . And they wrote their own songs which just goes to show it sod all to do with who wrote the songs. Aside from a few isolated hits whatever happened to Chinn/Chapman ???????????? LOL
Maybe the record buyers got tired of the same formula..the 3 you mention had a definite sound, the singles all sounded similar..unlike The Beatles who changed the sound with every single,
Lady Madonna....Let It Be..2 vastly different songs..yet written by the same person.
CHinn/Chapman...?
Maybe they metamrphosed into Stock/Aitken/Waterman..and whatever happened to them?
It's such a happy song, damn it makes me feel good and sunny :D

Just to clarify..I didn't mean all 3 bands sounded similar..I meant each band had it's own sound and the records that band released sounded similar.

If you follow that theory Elvis was an ordinary singer who needed other people`s songs to be a success !!
Ask yourself another question - how many hits did Chinn/Chapman compose
for anyone after 1975 !!

Yes Mud had number 1 hits, but the average record buyer was about 12,
( remember Teeny Boppers?) and would buy anything the Pop Mags told them to.

What extra something?,,they weren't anywhere near as good as Slade/T.Rex/Sweet/Wizzard etc
Even Paedo Glitter was better than Mud.

Funny how things move on..who'd have thought that nearly 40 years later we'd be discussing T.Rex and Glam Rock over the computer ?
