according to a official documentary about bruce lee's life it clearly stated bruce was primarily taught by wong shun leung with some instruction by ip man and he did the step thing where he tricked the other students to go away so he can have more instruction time with wong.

@MrHoppers002 ok thats interesting to heae of, but i think that the documentary was made before wong made his statement on his website. by the time wong taught lee it was from friend to friend, he was no sifu by that time, wasnt he? or am i misstaking persons here? but i like the fact that our discussion takes a non offensive path, lets keep it up ;-) cheers

ok well in that video wong shun leung himself said bruce lee would wait on the top of the stairs and trick the other students that wong is busy and he would get more instruction time with wong. Now why would wong tell a different story later? that makes no sense

@MrHoppers002 ok i got you, but i think we're talking bout different things here;-) im referring to the topic of ip man NOT beeing lees sifu.and by the time that he actually WAS his sifu, so he was wongs sifu, too. later ok well, thats another story ;-)then wong seemed to become  lees sifu .i wont negate that fact. i thought you and the others (whoever they are ;-) ) were saying wong was lees first sifu, and thats definitely not true.

Yes it's true Bruce Lee did study Wing Chun under Yip Man, but later on in life Bruce realised that Wing Chun had MANY flaws and started training in Judo and Ju-Jitsu and then created ''Jeet Kune Do''

Bruce Lee was a student of Yip Man, but it was tradition that the SiHings, "older brothers" did the training of the students, the teaching of the Sifu would be reserved for more advanced students. Bruce Lee's real teacher was Wong Shun Leung, actually in this video the story is about Wong Shun Leung and Bruce Lee, not Yip Man and Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee did not quit Wing Chun because he saw the flaws, that didn't come until after he had moved to USA.

@Dungarth He stopped Wing Chun because he had to move to America after some trouble in Hong Kong and fighting. Bruce Lee only knew SNT, the first Wing Chun form, some dummy sets and Chi Sau..what he knew he knew very well though. So, instead of teaching an incomplete style, since he didnt finish his training, he had to add in his own ideas and incorporated the other systems he studied.

Actually I am always suspicious when I see a so called master being overdressed (having flashy colourful "traditional" clothes), that's funny because he is trying to be more Chinese than the Chinese! I mean the "real" masters don't pay attention to this materialistic stuff like clothing...you can see many Chinese masters demonstrating stuff with jeans or shorts as clothing has nothing to do with kung-fu! It's usually the fake guys that try to compensate their lack of knowledge with clothes, etc.

That's why Todd Tei is known as the "fake Wing Chun sifu" in Wing Chun circles. He can't even get his stories straight. As mentioned in the other posts, the last story was actually about Wong Shun Leung.

@shadjazz - Well, ultimately, the man has to make a living so I'm not gonna take that away from him. What I don't agree with is when he misrepresents himself. When he is unable to even name his own sifu ("student of Yip Man" doesn't cut it... a few seminars with Yip Chun and Yip Ching doesn't count as them being your sifu), then that should say something about the quality of his kung fu.

Yes, that story indeed was about Wong Shun Leung, and, not Yip man.....I met a gong fu instructor recently who tried to tell me that the boxer uprising happened in 1911 (the date of the revolution), and, when the "experts" can't get their facts straight, then it makes one also wonder about the technical information. Maybe it shouldn't, but, it does.

i believe the last story was actually about wong shun leung, my grandmaster,not yip man because tho yip man is his sifu, wong shun leung actually taught bruce lee most of the stuff he knew about wing chun

That last story is hilarious! However, obviously Bruce Lee's bad behavior was something Yip Man would not have been happy with. Lying to your fellow students and your Sifu might get you kicked out of the school.
