These same sprites are still even in the final version of Unreal, only unseen from player because they got bhiddenflag on, you can see them in unrealeditor on maps though, the torches are light actors etc....
Its the first time that the creators only released Unreal Tournament 3 instead of first releasing Unreal 3 like on the previous Unreal-engines. I hope Unreal 3 will still be released since I think part 2 was kind of a letdown, although I doubt it will get released because of the (more popular) online counterpart.
you think you can upload these beta and alpha versions, they look like something i want to research a little bit. i like doing research on older alphas/betas/tech demos on these games. it would be greatly appreciated :)
Unreal II sucks, Unreal I has far better gameplay, and Unreal I is a great game, it has an amazing ambience, the AI is more fun, better than Half Life, or Halo.
BTW, you don't need to use software rendering with those programs. There's a nice Glide wrapper around called dgVoodoo, which translates Glide calls into Direct3D calls.
@ichiman14 And it still beats me why didn't they keep it in final game, maybe just as optional surface flag.
Still, U1 was a work of genius.

Alpha version had sprites...eh. Kind of like 2.5D shooter, but it wasn't at all, it was a true 3D.

Yeah, right now I know about this. Few months ago I din't. But I'm not sure if FRAPS can work with such wrappers.
