Such a youthful sound from Montserrat 1979 is unusual. Superb! Such feeling... it is subtle even though the ornaments are forte. Caballe is a phenomenal interpreter.
I don't think I've ever heard such a severe rallentando at the end. But I suppose the unusually muted pyrotechnics was preparing us for that all along.
This is a novel way of approaching this song:- I like different.
Caballé has sung this this (usually included in the Rodrigo version "Cuatro Canciones Amatorias") many times. She has exquisite moments here, but attacks the highest notes with less than elegant force. These should be touched lightly, as part of the melismatic fast notes of this madrigal. She is surprisingly sloppy here. Compare this performace with those of the divine Victoria de los Angeles. She makes the elm trees sway in the wind. Caballé uproots them.

It's nice to hear young Monserrat's voice with coloratura chop. Her coloratura is exquisite. Love this rendition, very crisp and delightful...

@tonyhan0903 Not so young, this recording is from 1979. Anyway her coloratura is exquisite, Indeed!

Nice, but why do singers feel they have to rush through this song. Isabel Bayrakdarian eclipses them all in this repertoire.

Victoria may or may not be 'divine' but Montserrat's pianist is certainly better!

Not when she has Alicia De Larrocha as her accompanist. :)

Now that would be a paring to treasure!

Actually an existing one, seach for videos from Lochness, you will find this paring performing!
