there are two explanations i've came up w/..

1) He dies by that big ball and the end is a metaphor of their love (they will always be together no matter what)

2) He doesn't die and he goes back further back in time wen she doesn't even know him yet and they meet and he graduates w/ her (he's the one to her right in the graduation pic w/ the glasses i've been told)

Well in this scenario, there was many things different. First off, remember the first 4 rules that was established in the secret music. The first two were referring to traveling to the future. However, since he traveled into the past, perhaps the "first person you see rule" does not apply.

The other explanation could be that when the demolition destroyed the piano, Jay had neither his future nor a way back to it; therefore he is stuck to live in the past normally.
