  • I recently moved from NJ to Fl and miss NY so much. This song embodies New York so does Elton. Brought tears to my eyes..

  • a man worthy of being called 'Sir' If my name isnt.... Jackhoffencum.'

  • @jackhoffencum ....you're a fu*King idiot!

  • this song is a testament to the goodness of man thank the lord for the people i have found hell yeah

  • One of the best classic Elton songs . . . always reminds me of times in Manhattan . . . terrific memories of Broadway and Times Square and the Village . . .

  • 10 years ago, a very special friend of mine introduced me to this beautiful song, Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters. She has since passed on but every time I hear it, I think of her. And what better way to do that then listening to Elton John :)

"i thank the Lord for the people I have found" Thank you Michelle!

  • biscatão =D

  • One of my all time favorite songs!

  • "I thank the Lord they're people out there like you" (sweet upload thanks)

  • Great great song!!!!

    Elton is great.

  • About SUMMER RAIN....Nice voice. bad lyrics. extremely bad lyrics for Matthew Morrison to sing. wish he gets this soone before the public impatiently throws his songs' in the bin.

  • Found our Wedding first dance song at last!! Thank you Elton John!

  • be riding my bike,,daddy be bringing the big ones,,and pretty sure,,i know who i wrote that paper with,,,yeah,,next of kin never changes,,daddy can sign

  • be riding my bike,,daddy be bringing the big ones,,and pretty sure,,i know who i wrote that paper with,,,

  • be riding my bike,,daddy be bringing the big ones,,

  • be riding my bike,,

  • God bless you , lord, Mr, Elton John.

  • Mr,, Elton John. Long life for you. God save you. Great.

  • I first heard this song with Nancy Wilson (of HEART) singing it. It is quit profound in its music structure (SOUND) and and in-genius in its presentation of the subject matter (WORDS).

  • Another great song by the Captain and the Kid.How the hell do you sit down and write this ?

  • Elton John is a God among men. A big, gay, fabulous God.

  • @MacbookProWizard ABSOLUTELY !!!!!!!

  • Wow, Elton's voice is gone. Worse than Billy's. Worse than Tom Jones'. What a shame. He still plays piano like nobody's business, he still has the passion in his voice, he just doesn't have the strength.

  • @UncleMikeNJ i don't know man, i mean, his range is shot, but it doesn't sound weak. bear in mind he had a throat surgery in 1987 that lowered his voice in the process of removing cancer. its got a nice richness to it now though

  • @UncleMikeNJ nah, his voice was in a bad state at this particular show, but at other recent ones he sounds great

  • @Stiletto92 I hope you're right.

  • They are chasing after the win. They never has to learn what's right. They fool their own shadow, there is no way for anyone to get around it. The people trust the credence of the BAR and The Cloth. Only to meet the element of surprise, once the BAR and The Cloth say GOOD MORNING to the NIGHT; And, all the people cry about a permit to allow a trash can full of dreams. The BAR and The Cloth tried to hide the permit, which they claimed they needed; To drive Nixon down and leave 4 dead in OHIO.

  • I wish he would sings songs like this more often at his concerts.

  • Legendary...

  • One of Eltons greatest long and foregotten gems. Damn, i have allways loved this song !!!!!

  • Beautiful! Anything by him is just Beautiful!

  • such talent, such a beautiful song.

  • Did he develop a lisp? Please don't misconstrue this as anti-gay but what the hell happened? Maybe he was sick

  • @danie447 Well, his s's do sound a bit off from the way they usually sound. But when he sings louder parts, like the chorus, they sound fine. So yeah, I don't know.

  • @newsboysrok I'm just happy someone can agree with me. His voice aged well don't get me wrong but it is a little femmy in this video.

  • @danie447 He´s often too close to the mic. Sad, i know.

  • Word escape me when trying to say how I feel about this guy! Woahhhhhhhhh...he just commands so much respect and I'm not religious (am spiritual) but this guy Elton almost makes me that way! "I thank the lord........." - xoxo You rock! see you tomorrow night Elton!

  • Wow. How did I miss this one?

  • My king. I bow in his honor. The best.

  • @bonefinderdog Couldn't have put it any better myself! My king. I bow in his honor. The best! You got it SO right! He has been my hero now for 41 years! There is none better!

  • on the piano he has a personal beautiful touch

  • man this guy is an OG

  • Oh My GOD!!!!!!! His voice has gotten so much better with age!!!!!!! I heard this song on the original LP and I "thought" I liked it... but hearing it now, I'm in LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • This song IMOHO sums up ELTON. He loves the human race!!. He is a real GEM in the English crown. I played this song tonight on acoustic with vocal, I'm rebooked for New Year, no prob. Elton is a true englishman, his "sirdom" is well appropriate.

  • Too good. He and Leon Russell played here just a few days ago and it got top notch reviews.

  • Beautiful Elton. A rendition and a song that was a favorite of mine. I feel I have committed such sacrilage 'cause it was not in the forefront of my memory. Classic Rock radio stations need to play more of a variety and include this one in their rotations. Hearing it again with the blending of such melody and crafted lyric is a sublime treat. We can't and shouldn't forget the fine writing team of Elton & Bernie Taupin, Rock n' Roll Royalty. Greatly appreciate the vid.

  • Love him! Was made fun of in Grade 7 for liking his music! (damn those 80's teens!) lol

  • how can 4 people dislike this??? This song is amazing... Elton is amazing.. His Piano is amazing..... NYC IS AMAZING........ BOTTOM LINE.. THIS PERFORMANCE IS AMAZING !!!!!!!

  • @chicacanadese F'n A Right On!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Elton is beyond any music artists of all time, IMO as well! Of course, it takes all kinds, else the world would be awfully lopsided. ; )

  • The man has to lose some weight. Play some soccer. Play tennis.

    Sounds very wheezy.

  • @CanaKahuna Elton has often played tennis (a friend of Billie Jean King), and kept fitter than it looks when struggling with his weight. This was 3 years ago. His voice aged 63 is still holding up well on the great new album The Union. He had to have a throat op in the 80s which didn't help

  • @GraviFreak The only other one is Billy Joel, and they're great friends!

  • Ah, i was a 15 year old boy running home from school, racing across the street at the top the hill and then stright down the foot path to my house, thru the front door, into my room, on goes the radio and this song playing off the charts... it come back..thank you..

  • Of all the great Elton John songs/hits, I think this is my favorite . :)

  • I prefer his more manly or somber voice over shouting. Come down in time aka stutter down in time is his best singing, best everything. Elton seems like a likable guy and is very charitable but he doesn't inhabit my soul like Neil Young or the Replacements. Studio version moves along a little faster if I remember and was better.. this is still good.

  • @11xzxzxz Talking of Neil Young, he's great on Gone to Shiloh, with Elton and Leon, his voice sounds so young and fresh

  • @mizofan OK thanks for letting me know Neil is on that too...Neil did wonders with Sentimental Hygiene with Warren Zevon and should be on every record ever made .. nah.

  • Elton's new album The Union, with Leon Russell, is a classic

  • If I hadn't seen the makers mark on the side facade, I would have sworn that was a Steinway he was playing. His tuner must have been a master to make a cheap piece of junk sound like that. It's a miracle! The middle and upper registers were sweet, and as pure as you could dream for. The lower ones were kind of muddled. But all in all ....well what can I say more.

  • Heart does an awesome cover of this tune. They kept the integrity and great touch of class to this song as it well deservered.

  • It's weird to hear this version immediately after the one posted from a 1972 concert. I'm not sure I prefer the older voice. It makes me kind of sad. I was probably one of his biggest pre-teen fans back in the 70s. Hearing the difference in his voice reminds me of how much time has passed since my --and his-- youth. .

  • Elton is not only a rare talent.. he is also a rare soul.. who has touched so many people lives in such a good way for such a long time.. We are all the people he is thanking the lord he found...PEACE

  • the more I listen too it reminds me of September

  • the more I listen too this song it reminds me of September 11th I dont know is it just me

  • He played Sault Ste Marie Ontario FOR 80 BUCKS 6000 people . never made a cent But made 6000 people very happy. class

  • Magical Man!!!Classic

  • yes he had gifted and wonderful voice

    thnax

  • The studio version of this song was used (very well so) in the finale of the American version television series "Life on Mars"...whether you liked the show or not this song worked well as the final song played on that show which featured a LOT of "period music". Elton's also had throat surgery which makes me admire his current singing ability even more. Congratulations, sir, for playing Arizona, Israel and Rush Limbaugh's wedding and not being shy about doing so.

  • I just rented this concert the other day. OMG - where was I???? Thank God someone got it on video. I have to buy it. My husband thought I was being attacked because I couldn't stop screaming and clapping with every song he played. I am a total run of the mill soccer mom who has always loved EJ. His music makes me feel ten feet off the ground. Forget Calgon - Elton, take me away!!!

  • my favorite...bernie and elton...

  • His voice is deeper....but the emotion is still there. Genuine delivery.

  • Bravo Elton, for playing Israel and not kowtowing to the propaganda.

This is my favorite song of yours, I thank the lord for people like you. XXOO

  • One of Elton's gems, and there are many !!!!!

  • This is my favorite song. It has been since I was 9 yrs. old(I'm 24 now). A few years ago I got to see Sir Elton John in concert at Arco Arena in Sacramento CA. I cried when I heard this song.

  • Without a doubt my favorite Elton John song ever......sung beautifully and with such raw emotion....it brings a tear to my eye every time......

  • i love this song, my fav rock band heart done a good cover of this song on their tour in 2002. great song.

  • Whenever you 'THINK' you can sing.. just watch American Idol when they had 'Elton John Night'.... Yes!!!, He's THAT good... when people 30 yrs younger than him.. are not able to do it........ and these are 'the best'........ then you know just how good this cat is!... Well done Elton... as always, well done.

  • He is fantastic! Brilliant.

  • Elton is one of my all time personal heros.

Bless you Elton, you are very loved!

    hope you enjoy !!

    vid title :

Rocket Man By Elton John (With Lyrics) / (i think its going to be a long long time)"

  • Fabulous....Amazing....Beautiful.....

  • i love you elton john.....this song helped me through alot of hardships...really.and thanks to Robert for Elton John.

  • He's almost as awesome as I am. Just kidding, no one could possibly even come close to being as good a composer as Elton John.

  • This guy has so much talent it seems he's cheating.

  • Simply love Elton John!

  • Elton John is just simply the best ever!!!!

  • i like this version better than the original recording off of honky chateau

  • agreed

  • Elton Foreverrrrrrrr ;)

  • I got to go and see him May 2009!!!!!!!!!

  • lol i beat you LIAMLEDD!

I love elton john and his music, and im 14.

i saved up for a whole year to buy me and two friends tickets to see him!

  • Same here I love Elton's music too and I'm 20..

  • amazing....simply amazing...im 17...i listen to Elton all the time...now this is good music

  • I Had a Very Vivid dream about this song last night.... Don't Know! I had to look and watch a few times ... I wonder why I dreamed it in Full Color Vocals? Thanks Elton John...I loved it!

  • he only plays this in NYC =D...and im proud to say thats where iam from

  • me 2 :D

  • I love how his voice becomes deeper, raspier, and darker as he ages. It sounds and feels as though there is so much more soul and life in it than there ever was. He is like a fine wine, he just gets better with age ♥

  • He's singing this an octave lower than he used to. His tonal quality really improved over the years even though he's always had a great voice. I always laugh when George Michael gets on stage with him. Michael kind of sounds OK by himself, but he should be embarrassed to sing next to Reg. What a difference in vocals.

  • Good comment, but it's not an octave lower hehe. He'd sound like Barry White if he did that!

  • This is in the exact same key (c-major) as the '72 live recording and the album version. It is not lower at all. His voice does have a darker character though. Agree on the George Michael thing though:-)

  • @maxb162 is right. I think it's called lowering a half step or a whole step, however, this is in C just like the original.

  • if its still in C, then he'd have to lower it a whole octave to stay in key

  • @wilmil7545 He's still singing it in the same key and the same octave as the original. His voice sounds deeper but he's actually singing the same notes.

  • @TheTomReid sure, hes stinging the same notes, but if hes singing it deeper ten he's playing it one [or two] octaves lower. for instance, instead of singing f4, hes singing f3. same note, only lower.

  • @wilmil7545 No he's not. It's the same note. The someone can have a deeper sounding voice but still sing high notes, just as someone with a high voice can sing low notes and sound high.

A good example of this is Meatloaf - he sings insanely high notes for a man but because his voice sounds deep, it seems that he's singing lower notes than he really is but in actual fact he's singing higher than most men will ever be able to reach.

Elton is not singing an octave lower.

  • @wilmil7545 No he's not. He just sounds deeper. When he sung f4 then, he sings f4 now. Same note, same octave.

  • its sad that most music has become so watered down and corporate ran that there are not many artists as oure and true to their self as people like elton john. bernie is a great writer, but what a voice elton has and had, keep going elton

  • I miss his old voice. Check out the live version of this song from '72. He still sounds OK but back then he was great.

  • I think he sounds MUCH better now =S nayways hes a genious one of my musical idols really =)

  • most singers retire in there 50s but not elton he keeps on going strong

  • I have read that he plays, on occasion, for the Queen. How nice would that be, a, audience of one with Elton John?

  • i paid him to play at my birthday party

  • is that true ? how many millions did you pay him for that ? :D

  • How did you get in touch with him? I'd love to have him at my party :) <3 thanks How much did this honour cost you ?

  • ser Elton John you are the best.

  • coke high in the 70s shit i do it right now

  • great song

  • awesome song

  • i think EJ is the best song artist that ever lived on this planet , no one can sing or play like him. i hope he never quit. <3

  • No one can immitate or duplicate this wonderful wonderful man's voice.

  • i can't sink like that not even at 18 :)).

  • in the 70's used to listen to this song late at night when coming down from a coke high. great album.

  • Its hard to say but i think , he said "F... you" when he point toward his left audience at the end...Anyone can confirm?

  • It's "Thank you."

  • LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No words. This is genius!

  • I much prefer his voice now than his voice as a younger man. I think it has much more character and seems to bring out the soulful side that is in much of his music.

What a man and musician, incredible

  • I prefer his younger voice but I hear what your saying; as he's gotten older he seems to sing with something more bordering on conviction or personal experience. A good way for a voice to age, to sing with wisdom you know?

  • @arod2222 just wanna make sure, his voice changed cuz of the operation he had in '87 rite? personally, his voice is different compared to the 70's but it's still Elton. It still has soul and still puts a smile on my face whenever i hear his music, espicially this song ^_^

  • @arod2222 He had vocal cord surgery in the late 80s. This very much changed the character of his voice but I fully agree: His voice now sounds so much more powerful and soulful. Elton, when will you come to Japan again? It has been too long...

  • Didn't he have some kind of growth in his throat or on his vocal chords in the mid-80's that changed his voice? If I remember correctly, his voice changed suddenly and I thought some type of operation was the reason.

  • You're correct, he had vocal-cord surgery, Thats why he can't sing in a falsetto anymore.

  • best song

  • Monaliza, how many gratitudes i'd like to put for u. holy mother, holy, holy!

  • Well after all the hard drugs, drinking for so long, smoking and bulimia, you can't exactly not expect his voice to change. In my eyes, he's lucky to still be singing at all.

But I'm a fan of his new and old stuff and like his voice just the same. ow he can hit lower notes while once he could hit the high ones. Not a bad trade.

  • yea, its odd. Hes like 2 singers in one.

  • Is that Davey up there?

  • I wish I had the the opportunity to listen to this song "live"...

what a song... what a song...

    "now I know... (...)"

  • he voice has changed alot. but he's still one of the best singer's, writes, and pianists ive ever heard. ive never heard an elton john song i havent like.

  • I cry ....Thanks Genius!

  • very nice

  • The best ever!! Love it so much..."and I go my way alone"...=~P

  • A wonderful posting! Thanks to you and to dlpine71 (david) for sharing! Shiny stars and hugs..Jan and Susan x

  • Usually the loss of high notes as a singer ages ... makes their singing of the songs of their youth ... a pale reflection (if not parody) of their greatness ...

...BUT this song ... can be sung (in New York City:) ... 35 years on ... and KNOW why they made him a knight. Amen. (Wiping tears from my eyes)

  • Great. Thank you David for sharing

  • I found it... Thank you for the post. Nice One....
