Don't worry about what ministries want. Focus on what God wants. He wants a cheerful giver. If you feel compelled and want to give and give freely, then give. If you feel obligated, keep your money. God doesn't want or need your money. It's the good sincere intent of the heart He wants. He will provide for His church whether you (the one feeling obligated) will give or not.

TD Jakes is not that kind of preacher. He preach strong sermon, convicting the sinners, building characters, preaching Christ's sermon, clarify what is right and wrong, encouraging people to fight for their salvation (once a person repented and accepted salvation, he has to fight circumstances and stay faithful to the Lord, or he will be disqualified).

I was at TD Jakes church in 1997 and he is not asking for money for himself. God is using him as He was using Paul and others. we cannot ignore that some or maybe many church or Christian organization using the church (or selling Christ's name for fame and wealth) to gain personal interest. This is obvious when those ministers only preaching nice sermons (avoiding wealthy members from living the church or may lose their huge tithe and contribution).

A lot of churches PERIOD. To an extent, the church IN GENERAL isn't wrong for wanting your money, because for ONE, that's what it takes for ministry to continue running. Number TWO, it's generally Biblical. Now it getting ridiculous goes totally outside of color. I do agree, it seems more prominent in Black churches, but, as an HONEST and God-dependant Black preacher, I would advise you to not limit your observations.
