A dust devil is formed when hot rising air meets horizontal wind sheer, so they don't need storms to form. Gustnadoes are just rotating updrafts along the edge of a thunderstorm. It stands for "Gust front Tornado".
So basically, Gustnadoes need thunderstorms and Dust Devils don't.
Sorry, but I don't think your info is correct. A dust devil, and btw I live in so. Ariz. wher in the summer we see big ones every day, sometimes 5 or more at a time, is simply hot air at the surface rising, and has nothing to do with it meeting horizontal shear. A gustnado, I'm a chaser, and have seen many, are just whirling vortexes of air formed by a thunderstorm's straight-line downdraft winds. They do not rotate as the result of rotation inside the storm like a tornado does.
dust devils are a result of hot air flowing upwards, gustnados form when a storm front or gustfront hits hot air, then the cold air from the storm slices under the hot air creating a upward motion of air, the turbulant interaction in this process will create a spinning collumn of air
Actualy they operate whit another team that have a special armored car that is builed to drive into a tornado so they can film a tornado from the inside.
i have already intercepted some gustnadoy by foot. it was funny inside
