  • I love both Matt and Ripper. But Ripper was Glorious!! in the Glorious Burden

  • Matt is great, but, Ripper in the Glorious Burden was perfect.

  • @Daniel22Henrique Yeah, he truly was, specially in the

Gettysburg trilogy. Although, I love Matt, Ripper was Glorious!!

  • Fucking awesome!!!

  • whre was this? Denver? it sucked cause the 1st time i saw iced Earth my dad got booted out. word of the wise, dont go to the bluebird theater, bunch of pussies run that venue cant even mosh

  • Matt's awesome during that intro!

  • I want to say good luck to Matt in his future after ICed Earth. I also want to say good luck to Stu with his coming onboard with ICed Earth. This song rocks!

  • Tim sang the characters of the trilogy. I think the trilogy on TGB is the true masterpiece of both Tim and Schaeffer's career. You can argue who the better singer is all you want, but Owen's owns this trilogy.....Barlow sings is stellar emotion laced metal voice, but does not blend into the characters of this trilogy like Owens.

  • Ripper was made for the glorious burden, this doesn't suit :S

  • he's flat on the main part of it. not as good as ripper.

  • Just simply amazing! Matt I miss you:(

  • Wow, Matt owns this track! So awesome. Helps take the cheesy power metal out of it!!! Please don't leave Matt...

  • @metallifreak77 he already did, the dude from Into Eternity replaced him.

  • @spaldino I know that, I was speaking in sorrow and regret.

  • @kromlord1

i dont know what ur going on about but schaffer actually said that he didnt feel that matt's heart was in the music anymore and he then let matt continue with HIS decision to leave the band. he was never fired and schaffer never even came to close to saying that his voice was terrible

  • Ripper is much better singer!

  • amen

  • this is one of the greatests songs ever

so emotional ... often brings tears to my eyes

  • Comment removed

  • Man - I've been wanting this ever since I heard Barlow left and Ripper took his place ... nice to see it wasn't a letdown ... the emotion that Barlow gets into his voice is incredible.

  • Like every album, I've grown to love it more and more and this trilogy is pure Iced Earth, beautiful .

  • @SpawnRevenge92 And don't you love Matt? With that cold or infectrion or whatever it was, singing his heart out \m/

  • say what ya want, both are fucking legends!! im with vascular@zeratul78, both vocalist deserve our utmost respect as TRUE ICED EARTH FANS!!!!

  • I like the emotion Matt displays at the beginning, but this song is better with Tim.

  • loook guys ripper is awsome but barlow is awsome as well he was just good in that album

  • Poor Ripper, first he had to fill Rob Halford's shoes, then, Matt's. Talk about a demanding job? LOL

  • @AngelWhitewolf Funny thing is, he's better than both of them.

  • @AngelWhitewolf

:) Filling Halford's boots will never be easy! There is no Priest without halford. But the Ripper did a fantastic Job on The Glorious Burden. It's my favorite I.E. album so far...

  • First time I've heard Matt sing any of this. He really does it brilliantly. Ripper owned it on the album but Matt also owns it here. Can't split them.

  • @zeratul78 I know, I've been an IE fan since 97'. When Matt left I was devastated. Tim took over with total and utter respect due from all fans. I saw them both live with Jon. Both were amazing. I will NOT disrespect either ever.

  • I personally prefer this version. I mean, the song WAS written with Matt in mind. And it's much more fitting, I feel.

  • I like Ripper better on this one

  • ripper on gettyburg is amazing..i dont like the glorious burden much but that epic song is a masterpiece..ripper shines there indeed. even though matt is matt like always he is fantastic.

  • @jorninorion

the Ripper KILLS on the Glorious Burden! Barlow DESTROYS it! I don't like him singing the Glorious Burdon songs...

  • rippa never better thats why he never keeps a job lol

  • hahahahaahah,omg

  • Rippa' is betta'

  • Only if you're deaf or retarded.

  • Seems like a really, really low budget show, eh?

  • I saw them on this tour in Massachusetts and this song was just amazing to hear live in person. Camera's don't do it enough justice or any recording devices. Hearing all the nuances lost in recordings like this with your own ears just sends chills down your spine when you can FEEL Barlows voice going through your body.

  • nice work continue Matt

  • If I met a singer that had the qualities of Ripper and Matt that make them great I would probably crap my pants because I was lucky enough to meet him, if possible her, then I'd clean myself off and start a band with them.

  • I can kinda do both of what they do... Check out a vid on my page. I also sing folk and hard rock

  • matt looks so weird without his hair.

  • IMO barlow did the end better, but thats just because i love his high singing.

  • This doesn't sound nearly as good as it was in concert. Must just be since its a video. But Barlow did incredible at singing this song, and as usual Iced Earth was unbelievable. Where was this filmed at?

  • It was in Philadelphia, PA on September 24th 2008. They put on a phenomenal show, though I would have liked to hear more stuff from the first 3 albums. And yeah, I have to agree, the video is cool, but doesn't really do justice to the sound and experience you get when you're actually there.

  • Damn, this is fantastic. Matt ripped it up. I love the original, but Matt adds his own touch, as always. It'd be great to get a duet between Matt and Tim, but we know that'll never happen.

  • I agree I'd like to have Jon do anotehr history CD with MAtt on vocals and for the single remake this trilogy with MAtt's vocals. That would be killer! If they do another History CD what topics would you want to see covered?

  • the best singer?

    haaahaaa

i like Barlow but Bruce Dikinson and Rob Halford sill live.

  • this song is make for Owens, like all album.

  • i wouldn't have known Owens did this song first. Barlow did very well on this. Better than any of his attempts at 10k strong

  • yeah true. keep in mind this song was written for bawlow though.. 10k strong was after ripper was in the band. great band!

  • WTF? I heard that Barlow's version sucked. This is almost as good as Owen's. Someone had shit in their ears when they said that Barlow can't do this album.

  • I love matt. he is in my opinion the best metal singer of all time, but i feel that owens did extremely well, and was the right man for this trilogy.

  • Goddammit I just got into these guys a few months ago, and I'm incredibly pissed that I was too late to see them, if they ignore the Gettysberg trilogy next tour, I will be insanely annoyed

  • They dont play it here in Europe, I've seen them last monday.

  • Die mother Fucker

  • we have the same opinion :p

  • uhm, hes a cop, not in the military. and the problem is both singers are in different vocal ranges. one doesnt suck compared to the other, just their both different

  • wow dude seriously? why can you just show respect and keep your opinions that Iced Earth fans don't care about to yourself...

  • oh, and while i agree with you that this is Owens territory, Barlow did his best and threw a ton of emotion in there and ended up performing it very well. (except at the very end)

  • i will remember you that Barlow as a big Cold during this part of the tour so that's normal that he had some problem with his voice

  • yes i knew that. i am not a bias fan, i love both Barlow and Owens equally for separate reasons, its just i started listening to Owens first. Don' get me wrong, please...i love barlows voice (especially on I Walk Alone)

  • i love both too but i think that owens just didn't fit on the barlow material but he did an awsome job with iced earth when barlow left. It's just that i have started to listening to barlow first :P

  • i agree completely. just goes back to the whole "territory" thing. Tim sucked on songs like Melancholy (except on the high parts..if any) and barlow didnt do so hot on songs like Ten Thousand Strong in my opinion...

but yea you listen to Barlow first eh? that's awesome, all the more power to ya!! it just pains me to see some people tear up the singers for ridiculous reasons

  • but man Do you ever go in a show of iced earth with barlow singning ten thousand strong? I can tell you cause i saw them 2 times in 2008 that ten thousand strong live when you see it was so much different that what you can see on youtube. Barlow do it very well same if it was written for owens. But no video on the web reproduce the reality of this cause the audio quality was not too good!!!

  • Confederation rules m8 :))) hehe i love the CD it is really amazing and so is Matt on the vocals.

  • I love Iced Earth, I love this song. The only thing I don't like is the design on Schaffer's guitar. It's a fricken Confederate Flag.

  • Can't believe they played some of this stuff! I LOVE that CD. Amazing.

  • I didn't think this song could get any better but goddamn Barlow sounds great doing it. Why the hell aren't they playing St. Louis!?

  • I know! I wonder what this would have sounded like with MAtt on vocals in the studio! I bet it would have been epic!

  • Most of this Album Tim sounds better, but this song Matt blows Owens away! I realize that the last two albums were written for Owens to sing, and he is great on them, but Matt Barlow has always been the best and true voice of Iced Earth. Jon Shaffer needs to start writing the next album for Matts vocals and right away! Before he pisses off the band "again", and makes everyone quit. LoL Seriously though I want another Matt album , and I like it but Crucible of Man is not a Matt album.

  • yea man. But the Crucible of Man was their best since Horror Show.

  • I agree but that doesn't say much though, since The Glorious Burden was not supposed to be a typical Iced Earth Album in the first place. I enjoy The Crucible of Man but it is far from Something Wicked Trilogy that started it all. It is missing something other than songs written for Matt that I just can't put my finger on.

  • The original trilogy is still untouchable. Some of the best material they ever recorded and Owens does an outstanding job on the songs. Barlow is better overall though.

  • This song is fucking amazing, this one and High Water Mark

  • Saw then at the house of blues in orlando. They were awesome.

  • i missed that show cuz no one wanted to go with me >D

  • I met them at the cleveland show It was awsome and they were all really nice and the show was killer.

  • hey symonwill i was there too, fuckin awesome concert, screamed my lungs out on high water mark, specially on that bayonet the yankee tyrants part lol

  • I was at the show in Worcester, MA last night. They played Declaration Day and High Water Mark off Glorioud Burden and I thought Barlow handled them incredibly well. He sounded great!

  • did you have some video of this show man i want to see how high water mark sound when barlow is not sick

  • excelent video

    from where?

  • philadelphia i think ^^

  • Hey man you can hear that barlow have some vocal problem during this first step of the touring in north america

  • Yep. The problem is he can't sing any Ripper era songs. On everything else he sounds great.

  • man you dont understand these trilogy was written for barlow in first but on this leg of the tour barlow was sick so its normal thats not sound like it supposed to be sound

  • On the contrary I do understand. This was originally written when Barlow was in the band but he couldn't do justice to it then just as he can't now which is part of the reason he was let go.

Jon said his heart wasn't in it but it is obvious that vocally he was never up to scratch on this particular material or indeed the majority of songs from the Ripper era.

  • lol ok so everyone has his own opinion man :P

  • Barlow pwns Owens on this song.

  • I hope it's just the recording but he sounds TERRIBLE on this, particularly towards the end

  • LOL, I just noticed his pants.

  • Dats mah boi!

  • "The burden lies upon us , Surrender is not an option.."

"Down below's the carnage , the rebels charging onward."

\m/IE really should record the Gettysburg trilogy with Matt. That is one fucking incredible perfomance , thanks for the upload.\m/

  • Omfg he sings that one better than the ripper.

And the ripper was amazing on that one.

  • man its fucking normal that barlow sound more beautiful than ripper on the gettysburg trilogy i will remember to you than the glorious burden album was written for matt style

  • "We know what we're made of and our nation needs us...".Absolutely Matt!!! We need you Iced Earth!

  • HEHE THANKS SO MUCH DUDE, YOU DID IT!! =D

Fuckin' great performance by Matt man, just like my mind imaginated it ;)

  • This is a terrific performance!

    Thanks for the videos! \m/

  • I was looking forward to hearing the whole thing when I see them in New York. Maybe they had time issues for the show you saw? I will ask Jon and Matt about it, as I got the V.I.P. package and supposedly will be able to meet the band.

  • It'll be awesome for you if they do, but from what I've heard around, this has been the set-list.

  • So they don't play 'Devil to Pay' as well? Just the 2/3 songs? Why not just go for all three?

  • yeah, unfortunately. It's kinda weird that they pulled a 2/3. It should be the whole deal or bust, really. It just doesn't flow, unless it's the full deal.

  • Maybe it's just like in Alive in Athens, they played just Slave to the Dark and A Question of Heaven, without Scarred, a damned good song btw...:/

  • Yeah, but 'The Suffering Scarred' isn't a real trilogy, as that whole album is about Spawn. The Gettysburg and Something Wicked trilogy differ in that they are completely separate stories from the other songs on their respective albums.

  • By the way, I have been meaning to ask you if you could re-upload that show from 2001 in San Fransisco. You are VigoGatsu, right?

  • Yes i'm Vigo...i'll upload another bootleg from the same tour but with a longest performance.

    I hope i'll have time soon :P
