  • wow... bring back memories , to a time when life was so much more simple and some good times with really good friends.

  • So many Spanish fans of Chapterhouse! I didn't realise there was so many Spanish Anglophiles.

  • @MrClassicist it's portuguese, no spanish what you read a lot in this comments, hope you understand my german

  • NO HOMO

  • what's that shit? Have I been wrong when I was believing that all that shoegaze stuff was worthy of My Bloody Valentine? it seemed that I did...

  • @yackoftheyear whaddya mean?

  • @NinetiesYouth huh?

  • This song has such a great hook! Love it!

  • beautiful song by the great band Chapterhouse!!!

  • samples led zep 'when the levee breaks' for the drumbeat

  • Adoro este video e todas as bandas desta época.

  • This is TWENTY years old. Jesus. Just listening to new Shoey bands on 6Music (Washed Out etc) made me want to see the original and best. Cheers Chaps you were great x

  • @pollmeister Oh I want to cry! Seems like yesterday I was 18

  • @bels10 absolutely, just stumbled across this and took me way back

  • This appears to be missing the first verse. Is this a different edit?

  • @emanuele6461 Radio edit version...

  • chapterhouse was amazing ! the song april is just unbelievable and this one with rachel goswell's backing vocals is just perfect ! what an awesome band and andrew sherriff was the hottest guy in the world :)

  • He's beautiful.

  • i miss shoegaze...why did people stop makin this stuff?

  • MBV was the best hands down If you know shoegaze most likely you've investigated & will agree or present a strong argument hopefully. the guy/person below me has It right (imo of course). Slowdive's "Souvlaki" album was the very Second BEST SHOEGAZE ALBUM It still could barely nipp at the heels of "Loveless" but.. what can!? lol. I love this era, style & this genre.. forget labels this is good music=has SOUL..manufactured crap never molds for days but good food molds If not ate fresh you know!

  • @playaeyez17 my favourite was Everything's Alright Forever by the Boo Radleys. In my opinion

the forgotten classic - probably because of wake up boo....

  • My Bloody Valentine were clearly the best, along with Slowdive. Ride and Chapterhouse were both solid shoegaze bands for sure, but it's a stretch to say either were the best.

  • despiting if is shoegaze or new paisley or hardcore indian raga, this is an amazing song. Fair enough for me.

  • If you like Chapterhouse, you don't understand shoegaze. They were the worst first wave shoegaze band, and they've aged poorly. Really uninventive syrupy melodies and obnoxious vocals here. Listen to Ride.

  • @Polyfusia Dude, are you mad??? You're totally wrong. All the shoegaze bands were great and Chapterhouse is not an exception. I personally like them because they blended the groove of Madchester scene with the psychedelia of Spacemen 3 perfectly. If you don't like Chapterhouse, it's your right. But don't say Chapterhouse fans don't understand shoegaze music. This is a REAL ignorance.OPEN YOUR MIND!!! And, by the way, I also like Ride. "Leave Them All Behind" is one of my favourite tracks.

  • Comment removed

  • @Polyfusia they had their place in the shoegaze scene. ride of course were the best

  • @Polyfusia You like something I don't! Your music is bad and you should listen to a band I like instead!

  • Now with bonus "Ooh ooh" by Rachel Goswell.

"Come Heaven" on the B-side is a corker.

  • shoegazer rules!!!

  • Video is gay but song is great

  • By far one of the greatest tunes ever..i could stare at my shoes all day

  • This shoegaze song has a good vibe to it. I like it - and the video is well shot. It does a good job in complimenting this song's unique, pop sound.

  • very pleasant

  • isisstardust, the song has samples of Kiss them for Me; Siouxsie and the Banshees and Return to Innocence by Enigma as it was produced by the same Producer.

  • @manamedia both this song and 'kiss them for me' sampled another song called 'PSK what does it mean' which was from 1985 this song does not sample kiss them for me...

  • I was 23 and kissed a lot of girls at this time..now I'42 , a kid , and life is very quiet

  • I noticed some people complaining that this video is too lame or boring................but I think it fits the song well. I like the simplicity and dream-like nature of it.

  • just watched them in NYC a couple days ago.

    IT BLOWED MY MIND AGAIN!

  • 90s where did you go?

  • @LandOfMutants

    Yup. My thoughts exactly.

Good song, but the video makes me cringe. The lead singer looks confused and gay throughout the whole video (not that there's anything wrong with either). The flowing hair in the wind doesn't help either.

  • i remember shaking my hair to this in the 90's..indie gods

  • I see snails whrerever I go......inspiral staircases maybe....the golden ratio.

  • I just reviewed a voivod video and needed a change of pace. I love this tune 91 was a very odd year for me and this song was a staple along with the heavier stuff like KMFMD and Pantera. I still love the beauty of this tune and and the lyrics.

  • Thank you!

  • One of the best memories from my teenage years I love Chapterhouse!

  • wow the video ruins the music. what a fucking tard

  • ahh... the boy band of shoegaze.

  • @sidewalkstreetlamps boy band? why?

  • high

  • chapterhouse are reformed! - seeing this live was amazing at the iCA - cannot wait to see them at the Scala in 3 weeks!!!!!

  • me tooo!

  • My bloody valentine

  • in a part sounds like 'kiss them for me' by Siouxsie and the banshees

  • @isisstardust and Jesus Jones

  • @isisstardust i noticed that too, and it ain't a bad thing

  • @isisstardust yeah, both songs use the same drum sample, and both came out at the same time. Always tripped me out.

  • yes you are right. while chapterhouse was recording, a sound engineer heard the song and then worked with siouxsie shortly after and gave them the lick and siouxsie's album came out 2 weeks before chapterhouse. not sure if there was any legal issues though. siouxsie had no idea it was someone elses work.

  • @isisstardust

I thought it was an actual sample?

  • @isisstardust both songs sample the same song 'PSK What Does It Mean' which was out in 1985, this song does not sample kiss them for me, as that song was based around the sample too...

  • @isisstardust Yes its that 90's drum break in the middle, I'm going to have to listen to that one now,.:)

  • @isisstardust I was JUST thinking that!!!

  • @isisstardust Whoah! I noticed that too!

  • @isisstardust yes, both songs sample Schoolly D's "PSK, What Does It Mean?"

  • @crashsite000 and as others have said, the drum beat is a sample of Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks"...which is sampled in many other songs

  • the guy in the vid is andy tho

  • U right, my mistake....The Gorgeous Sherriff!

Stephen is sweet as well...LOVE 'em!!!

  • SEXXX

  • Well, it's very easy to call videos like this corny by 2009/2010 standards, but back then, it was a little different.

Then again, hardly anyone gets to make a video anymore, so it doesn't even matter what the 2009/2010 standards are now!

  • Swervedriver's "Raise" was most definitely a shoegazey album, but their influences were more along the T-Rex vein. They were not strictly shoegaze or grunge or rock, but had elements of all in their tunes. Each album was different from the preceding one.

I love this song by Chapterhouse. Reminds me of Lush and MBV. Classic shoegaze with the vocals buried beneath textures of sound. Dreamy.

  • i don't find this video to be cheesy at all--it has a great ethereal feel to it that a lot of bands embodied then..cocteau twins, my bloody valentine, slowdive ect ect ect.

  • amazing music, but a horrible video, why many videos of the shoegaze scene where so corny?

  • chapterhouse owns (or did own, briefly)

  • i like this but it seems like the vocals should be louder?

  • Ha ha ha.. I thought the same thing.. the muted vocals bothered me for years.. I later learned that Chapterhouse was classified as a Shoegazer band and that this style of muffled vocals overshadowed by stronger music was just emerging in England back in the late 80s early 90s period

  • haha yeah i hear what you're saying, still i think it would be a better song if the vocals were even just a little bit louder or clearer, but that's just my opinion i can still appreciate it for what it is, it achieves a very dreamy sound

  • amazing! and Rachel on back vocals

  • Thanks for posting this. I never heard Chapterhouse when they were extant-nice to check them out.

  • Thanks for the upload! :)

  • I don't consider Swervedriver to be shoegaze. i think they just got lumped in the category. They sounded very much like Grunge to me, maybe "Deep Seat' could pass for Shoegaze, but the rest don't seem to fit the genre. However, we can't forget Slowdive! :)

  • @localdummiesguy

I could agree with that, swervedriver is pretty spaced out though. I coudln't put it with "grunge". Yes, slowdive has some awesome music.

  • true that! Especially Raise! I was referring to Mezcal Head moreso than their earlier material. Don't get me wrong though I still like them. Would love to find more Nugaze though...

  • Drum beat is spot on "When the Levee Breaks" Led Zeppelin

  • And also "kiss them for me" from Siouxsie

  • no teeth please

  • trippiest song of all time

  • Nossa, já tinha procurado esse vídeo e não tinha aki no youtube. Valeu!

  • Realmente, tá ficando cada vez mais difício encontrar esses videos.

  • Cheers for the upload! I was just complaining to a friend the other day about this video not being on YouTube...can someone get "Mesmerise" back up too??

  • Some month ago I don't finding this video at youtube. I decided to share with friends.

About "Mesmerise", I go find and share.
