  • I'd much rather hear Sting scream Day-o at sporting events instead of Harry Belafonte

  • Innovative Guitar !

  • pretty much most bands have other bands that sound simalar but the police were on a stage of there own and a league of there own....... top fkn band

  • COPELAND is God on Drums !!! He's the greatest !!! I've heard Rush, and many other bands but THE POLICE are 3 men who make incredible music!!!

  • @65alphonso you´re so f******* right

  • How could you not out walk out of that show and that performance and realize that you had just seen one of the greatest live performances and know that this band will be legendary from there on out?

  • Forever Copeland will a God !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for posting this awesome video. A quick correction from a fellow Police nut. This was not their first American tour. Their first tour of the states was in late 1978 when they were barely holding it together. The Outlandes video which this performance is taken from has a Steward Copeland quote about coming to America where there was a "need for the movemement but the bus hadn't yet arrived" and then cuts to this clip which is somewhat misleading. This performance was later.

  • the heart, soul & engine of POLICE......ladies &gentlemen STEWART COPELAND...............

  • @cybermatufia forever copeland is the man !!

  • when i go to job interviews i just bring my Police record. it makes it easier....and it explains the dancing.

  • This is kool energy and Sting is not a GOD!

    BangkokJohnny

    Royaume de Thailande

  • i like the part when he sings: "daylight comes and you wanna go home". That is fucking great. The whistling sounds are also very cool. It's cool I can imitate the whistling. oohoo oohoo!

  • do or die performance.....

  • @vakeromty Not sure what you mean by that. Although they were a totally unknown comodity in the US in 1979, they were so amazingly great live that there was really never a chance of the audience not being completely blown away by them. THat's my take anyway. :-) Cheers

  • who the fuck disliked this video????

  • @mccartn3y coldplay

  • i met stewart at n.a.m.m. just before they kicked off their reunion tour. it was an hour and a half before he was scheduled to show up and my friend forced me to wait at the signing booth. by the time stewart showed up (on time) my friend followed the never ending trail of people which snaked all throughout the venue. as he asked, 95% of the people were there for stewart. im glad he made me start that line, for i was the first to meet him and get an autograph and picture.

  • Best version on utube I've found. Thanks for uploading.

  • regatta to ghost in the machine, the best era of the police.

  • i wonder if copeland still as that drumkit it´s really nice, copeland is th best his feeling towars rythim is just unique his technic his rimshot´s it´s amazing.

  • Now this is rock n roll ladies and gentleman...this is how its done.

  • damn, i almost forgot that they used to be amazing after watching the shitty videos in Rio from the reunion....but this...this is different.

  • The Police and Sting are the Best Musicans on this planet. I love them and their great music, even if i am only 14 years old. Sting is a god ♥

  • @TheMissOuLaLa I saw The Police when I was 15 at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia, August 24, 1983. They were and still are my idols forever.... God, Sting is at the peak of his fucking coolness in this performance. The ballbreaking energy of 'Losing You/Regatta' is just killer. Still looking to form my Police Tribute band in Philly at age 44!!! Know all the bass lines...

  • simply without words :-)

  • i want a dvd of this!

  • @MondoReyTV1 This was taken from the VHS tape "Outlandos to Synchronicities" I don't think they ever released it on DVD.

  • EEEEEoooooooo, EEEEEEEoooooo, EEEEEEEYaaaa-Yohhhh!!!

  • Having seen this show or any at that time; is there any wonder how one couldn't foresee this band being one of the greatest in rock history. The sheer talent outweighs many bands of that time and genre. Copeland is incomparable and miles from anyone else. And Stings vocals and writing stand alone.

  • An amazing version!!!

  • must be the best band (soundwise) ever on this planet!!!

it makes you think it is a 5 members band, but they re only three. it is magic

  • Now look very closely, you little, shitty, faget boybands thinking you know it all... THIS IS how it's really done!!.....

Raw energy, musical skill, combined with synergy and chemistry!... Watch closely, again and again.. Then again, don't.. you'll never get to that level.

  • was born a gordon sumner fan...was my older brothers teacher in school, so wat the fuk r u talking about ye sad fuk...try coming from gateshead and find out wat ye talking aboot

  • I think you've misunderstood what I exactly meant here.I've lived for 7 years in Wallsend, Station Road..Exactly..What I meant with my remark, is that this video, is the best I've ever seen. Especially Sting's thundering bass and his fantastic, loud, "DEEOO"- scream. That's what it's all about. I think that todays boy-bands should take a good look how it's really done, by The Police. They're one of the rare bands who played live just as good and maybe even better, than on record. Relax man, relax.

  • Except for the chemistry thing, ha. nonetheless those boy bands oughta take notes

  • @alpeartree you are sooooo right !

  • @alpeartree lol if you think boybands have any pretense of being legitimate artists and aren't just a product of some label executive. lol how stupid you must be IRL

  • what a night! Awesome - as usual!

  • Sting haters need to check this out.

    3 magicians right here.

  • Thank you so much Sting,Andy & Stewart for the last 2007-08 world tour.Fantastic concert in Barcelona,September 2007!

  • @treboltenerife

Never ever copelandsummers did reach the dynymics in 2008/9. Sting is the only one who did..Saw//heard tmem live..

  • That is my music! :-)))

  • even now they're getting old..but i've seen live in Ausie..ohhhh nice man,.especially to steward..kick ass

  • la telecaster estaría ya vieja en el 79, pero hay que ver como suena!y son Police en estado puro antes de alcanzar el éxito!

  • GREATEST!!!!!!!

  • Gosh they've all got the best energy! And talent! Best band in the whole fuckin world!

  • just love it ,,,great raw footage !!!

  • Good Lord, that's the same guitar you see Andy using 29 years later in the "Certifiable" DVD.

  • yes, la telecaster ya en esa epoca estaba echa mierda...pero saonaba como los dioses...y Copeland...un genio tocando la bateria.!!!!

  • aaaaaaah I want to be right there in front of the stage!!!!

  • GREAT !!

  • more than a b-side. absolute hammer!

  • its reh-gattah duh blah-ngk

  • Yeah regatta de blanc is one of my favourites song also. Copeland is a great drummer- u hear him play reverbs on the studio version. so good.

  • Reggatta de blanc is one of my favorite songs. Though I never know how to pronounce it. :P

  • Andy Summer's Sumo wrestles in his spare time.

  • Visited Florida in 79 and I was there at this concert in October 1979 - I met the guys at Kennedy Space Centre where they were filming the video for Walking on the Moon and chatted to them, got their autographs and we got tickets for the gig. Took my cousin Sean. It was amazing.

  • i was at there 84 syn tour in miami, still got the stubs!...LONG LIVE THE POLICE!!!!!!!

  • do u have more songs of this tour?? :P

    thx

    good video

  • Synchronicity II, of course

  • definitely Synchronicity

  • Jeg kan ikke holde til at miste dig! Jeder der das durchgemacht hast versteht das. It is not an exaple to be followed.

  • I beg your pardon

  • There is no better album than Reggatta de blanc !!!

  • WOW !!! can you feel the power, the drive, the energy. Sting is full of power, the drummer is full of power, but what's the matter with the guitar player? he semms so cool. the performance gives me a bang, perfect. pure power !!!

  • Great music never gets "old".

  • man...the energy level is insane

  • That's what I love about Andy, Stewart, and Sting... They never leave anything off the stage.. Every time they stepped out on that stage they gave it everything they had!

    ROCK ON POLICE!!

You gotta tour again! Because we can't stand losing you!

  • bellissimo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Now THIS is the Police ... what I wouldn't give to hear them play it like THIS again.

  • what planet is Stewart from

  • Planet Rimshot!

  • Wow... they have so much energy

  • More bands need to be like them

    They kick ass!

  • woooooah, damn they're SO AWSOME I CAN'T STAND IT!

  • YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • INCREDIBLE

  • Love the sound of those Octobans

  • Can't wait till I see them in concert in 3 weeks!!!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

  • REGATTA DE BLANC is the best POLICE album!

  • the best one!

  • ReGGatta

  • REGATTA DE BLANC is the best POLICE album!

  • ReGGatta

  • jajaja la kgo wn no kchan ni una wea los weones...tni razon

  • Jajaja los españoles que no cachan nada XD

    gallego

  • seco = bueno

the police mucho mejor que rush probablemente mi grupo preferido y stewart copeland mi baterista prferido

  • con secos me refiero a que son buenos mucho mejor que rush obviamente y muy buenos musicos, la diferencia de idiomas te puede hacer pensar que me refiero a algo malo con secos pero significa que son exelentes.

    entiendes?

  • Copeland is the God of the drums

  • Damn right!

  • OMG these guys are my GODS! I effing LOVE the POLICE!!! Stewart is SO unbelievably AMAZING!!!!

  • Three Genius'.

  • October 1979 - Funny thing is their album hit NUMBER ONE in England while they were touring the US in a van!!

  • Trop trop trop bon !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the police are great at low or high volume....but this one....PLEASE turn up the vol....for max effect....this is what the police would sound like in your house....amazing.....MUSIC at it's best....just out of interest...as a guitarist, i used this vid to get the fingering right for the harmonics part of 'regatta'....long live the Police...i don't really need to say that cos i'm sure they will anyway :)

  • The moment at 2:16 is like shifting up to 4th gear in a Ferrari. When Copeland goes to the ride cymbal at 2:28 it's like shifting to 5th and burying the pedal! Thanks Stewart, Sting and Andy for this. It's been burning since 1979.

  • ABSOLUTELY!!!!! SPOT ON!!!! WELL BLOODY FOOKING STATED, MATE!......Wait a minute, I haven't driven a Ferrari! DOH!!!!

  • oh wow, who the hell are these guys, bearshare here I come...

  • Impressed.

  • HOT

  • A D R E N A L I N A ........

  • Damn, the sight of Stewart behind a set of Tama's is still the coolest and thrilling thing in Rock and Roll! Thanks for this video, it instantly brought back why I was such a Police fanatic in the 80s. Incredible.

  • Hey there.Did you happen to see them in the 80's??It's and era I would like to have grown up in.

  • Yeah, I saw them early in '80 at a 'Police Picnic' in Toronto, I think around Regatta de Blanc timeframe, and then again for the Synchronicity tour in '84 in Buffalo. Sting was the star, but it was Stewart's unfrickin'believable drumming that drew me in. All my friends were like, "Neal Peart rules!" and I was saying, are you kidding me? Listen to this guy!

  • Neil Peart,haha

  • Neil Peart is great but nobody can swing the reggae-punk-monster like Stuart Copeland

  • Nothing short of amazing. I've never seen anything like watching Stewart play. He fills the stage with energy.

  • One of the best version of this song!! Incredible.

  • Now this is what I call HUNGER. Sting should stop doing yoga and start sleeping in the back of a van again.

  • Daylight come ...

  • classic police

  • GREAT.

  • wow this is what a rock performance is supposed to be.

  • This clip isn't as clean sounding as watching it on "Outlandos to Synchronicities: a History of the Police Live" but it is the best recording I have heard so far of Reggatta de Blanc. Copeland's drums sound fantastic. That Paiste ride cymbal he used sounded great on record, live, even on bootlegs.

  • since i was 14 years old, i've waited 27 years to see this wonder. in three days, i'll fly to barcelona to feel this sort of stunning chemistry and magnetism and power. a wish for everyone's dreams to come true, at least once

  • As much as I enjoyed seeing them together again, I wouldn't say that they had either the power or the chemistry that you see in this video. This is some incredibly powerful shit.

  • Is andy doing tap harmonics in the intro?

  • Brilliant energy - superb! Stew is right on the money as always... :)

The vitality of youth is an all too brief flame... :(

  • On DVD that is.

  • This was filmed live for the Old Grey Whistle Test show on BBC2 10-26-1979 Miami, FL Gusman Auditorium USA. A very rare thing for them as they always just filmed bands in their studio. They also did a one-off special called Police In The East. It's basically even more amazing footage and inteviews that comprise the Around The World VHS. Someone has to release this soon!

  • I love how they could jump from song to song and change the melody so fast...and yet do it so smoothly and flawlessly! The Police were awesome. Sometimes I think I was just born too late.

  • All cylinders. Nothing else to say.

  • very nicely said though...

  • Sting is awsm in this video.... but Andy is still so hot!!

  • I totally agree - Andy rules 4ever!!!

  • Sick shit!

  • They were the shit!

  • cool, I played the same theater back in 93

  • What theater is it? I couldn't find any info here. Thanks,

  • This is the Gusman Theatre in downtown Miami. You can't tell from the clip, but it's a very beautiful historic theatre, built in 1925. It's been fully restored and it really is breathtakingly beautiful.

Back to the Police clip: Oh. My. Gawd!! I had no idea that video/film footage existed of this performance. Was the whole concert filmed, or is this clip part of some other program?

  • thats another program man, its a vid called "outlandos to synchronicities - a history of the police" or something to that affect. i've got it on vhs at home XD its pretty awsome! it has a bunch of live preformances and interviews on it, if u can find it get it!

  • Duh, it's at the start of the video. I wasn't watching the first few secs. Sorry.

  • Amazing !!

  • Copeland has to be one of the best drummers in rock ever.

  • yes, he is one of the best drummers around...love his style

  • Thank 'Jah' for Reggatta de Blanc!

    This performance is Eternal!

See the other comments that I posted for this video!

  • Copeland is God .

  • Man, Sting used to have such a SEXY edge to him. He's still sexy, but in a different way. :)

  • hello jennie stop stop!!!comment about andy or stewart ,jajaja bye my friend.(take a cool shower).

  • Andy who? Stewart who? OOOH. Those guys. Just teasing, I love them, too, but in a different way. :) They are GREAT at what they do. Now, as I was saying- wow Sting was sexy.

    haha

  • what a performance!!

  • Love Can't Stand Losing to BITS!!!! Thanks so much for posting!!

  • I love the way they tied the two songs together. They can Jam forever

  • The Fuss is about this ! My god if they can produce this kind of performance now ! I would pay $500 per night. It rocks period.

  • !!the police HYMN !!!! the police best of best iiioooo iiiee iieeeoooo

  • tight. Andy looks hot in this video.

  • AGREED!

  • Oh yes.... :)

  • Regatta De Blanc is one of the best instrumentals i've ever heard. Copeland, Sting, and Summers give off absolutely incredible performances in that song...IMO some of the best I have ever heard. All three of these guys are among some of the best at their instruments at least in my opinion. The Police are one of the greatest bands ever....one of a kind certainly.

  • Always good to hear Andy live, Sting and Stewart would only give him like eight bars for his solo on the albums, but he wailed away live.

  • I want to know what combination of drugs Sting was on...

  • coke

    ego

  • LOL

  • Weed

    Jah! Jah! Jah! Jah!

  • LOL as well

  • Sting ne pouvait pas s'empecher de tirer la couverture à lui!!

  • Stewart Copeland's drumming defined the Police sound

  • NO it is andy summers

  • so did, Summer's Guitar style and Sting's voice and Basslines.... 1 + 1 + 1 = Police :D

  • You're exactly right. How asinine to assert that one individual in a GROUP, makes the group. Especially when each in The Police provided a unique, and / or special sound.

  • 4:12 Andy... :)

  • second US tour in 79

  • This is from the Outlandos to Synchronicities video...probably already mentioned though.

  • screaming lol

  • This is from their third tour supporting Zenyatta mondatta

  • Hate to be a stickler for details, but it says Miami, October 1979 at the beginning of the clip. Zenyatta wasn't recorded until the summer of 1980, and the tour obviously came after that.

  • Let´s not forget to mentions andy summer´s exquisite minimalisim and sound that´s very much a part of Police´s sound

  • I agree. Andy Summmers' distinct style greatly contributed to the "Police Sound."

Here's a confident quote from Andy: "As far as I'm concerned, The Police didn't really start until I joined."

(Message in a Box, Page 28.)

  • Holy CRAP. If this reunion tour this summer can generate one tenth of this energy, it'll be amazing.

  • >Stewart Copeland is not simply a drummer; he is a Master of percussion.

    >Andy Summers' ethereal talent transcends space & time.

    >Stings' Commanding presence on stage was absolutely magnetic; he knew exactly how to capture the attention of the audience.

    >The Police are music icons.

  • the lasr great band to ever come down the pike! all other bands in their wake are merely mortal.

  • Even before their heyday, the Police distinguished themselves by surpassing the mediocrity of their peers. This live performance of 'Reggatta de Blanc' captures the core essence of this magical trio. The Police were a musical powerhouse that radiated a shimmering, explosive energy. They channeled their immense talent and generated a powerful electric force, which kept them at the top, and propelled them further Up to the highest level of superstardom.

  • Funny that with time The Police almost seem like soft rock (I said ALMOST!), but watching this video reminds me of what a high-energy, nearly frenetic jam band they were. It's just crazy. It's like they're all over the map AND tight as hell at the same time. Mad, frantic genius. This is one of the great three piece rock bands of all time, in their finest form.

  • Copeland rules-listen to Nigel Gray on the 10 days or so needed to record Regatta de Blanc and the number of times he drummed with wrong sticks deliberately kept like that. Met Stewart in Ghent when presenting 8mm movie on touring experiences, demons are out of all 3 of them and they feel like rocking the hell out of everyone, how sharp they were at grammy´s. Cream, Hendrix Experience, Blind Faith, Police, say no more. Mitch Mitchell, Art Blakey, Ginger Baker, Stewart Copeland, say no more.
