The US's real intentions? No, it was Nixon's intentions. He was the one who ordered the CIA to depose President Allende in 1970.

From what I can tell form your account, you are a German. Well, I am an American. I was born and raised in America. I can tell you that Nixon IS still vilified as a warmongering, anti-Semitic, criminal.

There are still people who nonetheless support him. They argue that he was a diplomatic genius because he opened the USA to China. But the majority of Americans don't buy it. Every evil man or dictator will always have supporters and apologists no matter how vile they were.

I suppose they just did what the US military told them to do, and they had no agenda of their own. And where would Canada be without US military protection? Canadians are the biggest hypocrites. Great Movie! The theme of the CIA's intervention in other nation's internal affairs is pertainent today. Great cast. Even the small parts like the Robert Redford type US Consulate Operator was really done well.
