@Jannfann21I strongly disagree, Cherelle has the perfect voice for this. It sounds like Mariah is doing a cover whereas this IS Cherelle's song. You can hear the emotion in her voice unlike the cover. You have to listen to this loud because the cover is already a lot louder due to modern compression. I guarantee this version sounds far superior if you had them side by side. Much better voice.

But the reason why it has a "distinct" sound is b/c it was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who are part of the 80's band The Time who are from Minneapolis along with Prince, who are good friends and toured together during the Purple Rain days, also they (The Time)were featured in the movie. So you are hearing that Minneapolis Sound.
