Great video - thanks for posting. I visited from Australia and did most of that drive leat year over about 4 days. You have some of the most beautuful scenery in all of America. I took 2,000 pictures but the video still gives great memories ;-)
You might like my video too. /JlA_LXV_zZI?hd=1 It was 2 days from Indianapolis to Denver. No cool mountains, but the sunset the first day was pretty cool. I'm moving to Vail this winter, so hopefully I will get some awesome mountain time lapses. Do you use a GoPro?
I live in grand junction..there is a clear shot of the grand mesa in most of this video i see. i wouldnt move ever in my life. i love the view i have from my front porch of that blue mountian.
Grand Junction is the place I am thinking of relocating to in June of 2009. Tell me more about that area. I have looked into Fort Collins, Denver and Fort Morgan. For some reason, Grand Junction keeps popping up as the place to be.
Well were are you from originally? Im from Los Angelas. And my entire life changed when I moved. It was wierd to actually feel safe walking down the street at night.lol. I live in the redlands. Very nice area with a very nice view. Its very peacful here. Were not to small of a city, and were not to big. Its perfect. The grand mesa is beautiful. Exspecially in the winter when it snows.I never really run out of things to do. If you have kids its a really good place for them to grow up.
Morgan, It's very hot there in the summer. It's on the edge of a dessert and the rocky mountains so you're very close to TOOOOOOOOONs of recreation ares. Moab, Uncompahgre plateau (pure untouched Colorado west) Fruita (mountain biking) grand mesa (amazing fishing) and the worlds best skiing a few hours in two directions.
My favorite town is Durango but I live near Vail now and love it. If I want a break from the snow, it's only 1.5hrs to Fruita, or 1.5hrs to the casinos, Denver or Boulder.
Yea, I know I was driving slow. I was pulling a 8000 lb trailer, and found that If I drove 70-75 mph I got 11 MPG, but if I drove 60-65 mph I got 19 mpg. I saved over $100 per day on this trip by driving 10 mph slower than usual. The timelapse makes it look worse that it was, the trucks were only driving 3-5 mph faster than me.
I would like to see that slower version of glenwood canyon when you get it up. I was actually working on that construction job milling up the old asphalt, took us 3.5 months. best job I was ever on. 2001 right?
And btw, the construction part, around the 3:30 to 4:00 part was the only thing that confused me about the video somewhat, but it was great otherwise! And I loved how you chose a instrumental version of "All Along the Watchtower" as your background music!
Awesome! And that road construction you drove through was actually along I-70? Interesting that a good part of that section, there isn't any sort of jersey barriers or anything seperating both lanes of traffic(unless maybe I'm mistaken, and you did exit off of I-70).
It was all I-70. In Glenwood Canyon, a ten mile stretch of I-70 consists of two separate bridges that hug the canyon walls above the Colorado River.
From 3m27s to 3m52s, due to construction, eastbound traffic was shifted to the westbound bridge. If you look to the right you'll see the eastbound bridge. After the construction, you'll see the westbound bridge above and to the left.

I don't know about high speed vids sometimes, but I could still catch the lovely scenery of Glenwood Canyon in this one.

Awesome video. But 40 mph?!? How did you have the patience to drive that slow? I couldn't do that if you paid me.

Everybody seems to think they need to drive that fast here, particularly between GJ and Parachute.

Wish I could drive that fast thru Glenwood Canyon.

See the video responses for the slower version(s) of the Glenwood Canyon footage.
BTW, this video was taken Thursday May 24, 2007 at about 8:00 pm.

I like it a lot. Great music choice. Sounds a lot like Bela Fleck when he does stuff wit edgar myer.....but anyways...two questions:
1. What kind of camera do you have/or were you using?
2. What kind of software/program did you use to make a time lapse video?
I am very interested
johnsenpa 4 years ago
Thanks, I'm glad you like it.
1. I used a Canon DC-210 mini-DVD camcorder in LP (60 min) resolution, on manual focus (set to infinity), with image stabilizer turned off.
2. Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0

Also, there were no jersey walls because there wasn't room for them. Trucks had less than one foot margin on each side as it was.
And we were only driving 40 mph
ShingleCreek 4 years ago
Oh ok, that explains the construction part(and why I found it a bit weird). Thanks for mentioning all that!
