I noticed "N" numbers on some of the planes taking off... "N" numbers were not around yet, and even then, they were in europe so the planes would not be designated as "N"

The sheer scale of what the allies did during the normandy invasion is staggering. There were more boats in the english channel on June 6th 1944 than there was in the world during the times of Queen Elizabeth. Alot of movies tone it down I imagine because to show the full scale of what was assembled would appear "fake" and "photoshopped" to a modern viewer.
