The stock market is only up on a pure numeric basis. When you factor in the collapsed value of the US dollar, the artificial effects of the PPT, money printing. 17% U6 unemployment and the overall debt created, in reality the market has already crashed. When the US government and the Fed pull their fingers out of the dike (has to happen at some point very soon) you had better have a good boat. Whats happening in the US may be the largest charade ever perpetrated on a major country in history.

People are way too optimistic period. They know more about American Idol than general economics and finance. I'm currently in a job search program for my 4.0- 4 year degree in business and my job coach needed to be coached by me. She had no idea what any unemployment rate was. She couldn't believe U6 was 17.5%. Then again, I come from a rural county of about 17,000 people. All we have is farmers who get unemployment during the winter and everybody else is poor as dirt.

I don't think that things are as simple as you put them. History is very complicated and there are many factors to indicate that the US, in those days, was absolutely not the US today : moraly, psychologicaly, industrialy and politicaly. Today (since 1947) the US, in political terms, is a national police industrio-military security state, which was not the case in the years preceeding WW 2.
