For Europeans, other countries are often a train ride or a quick drive away. A few hours of driving and you can be in several different countries depending on which direction you go.
America is too big to drive to another country unless you live near the border. And even then, you are limited to 2 choices: Canada or Mexico. American's don't have a "quick getaway" like Europeans do where they can leave the country for the weekend.
I'm still wondering how the French could believe that they're any less rude than Americans. I've met scores of French folks when I was abroad and they were almost all impolite to such an extreme that it took me no time to suspect that their behavior was cultural.
The rudest tourists in Hong Kong are mainland Chinese, and the second rudest are the Americans & the Canadians. The European tourists are much more courteous and polite.

Since Europe isn't very big, and there are a lot of countries in that small area, I'm sure they travel to many different countries around Europe quite often. Americans don't travel over-seas as often because it's so far away and their country is so big already. They travel within.
Ah, I love the French. One of our waiters in Paris started taking out different bottles of wine for us to try (for free!), and even sat down with us for a conversation! Of course, he was originally from Algiers, and was beside himself to meet a belly dancer from America! LOL!
