wen i was locked up for 6 months i couldnt even do 10 in one clip bye the end of my stay i was doing 400 pullups n 10 at a clip, 4 different angles a hundred of each try it out, no long brakes get the shit done
before p90x icould do more than 20 pullups i am now starting i am 15 150 lbs and getting better and better everyday ithink the abs are the real workout
There are a lot more 16 year olds (like myself) than I thought. Im only doing P90X to get bigger and ripped. Im at 145 right now and hope to be around 155-160 when Im done. I can also do about 25-30 pullups at a time. And I can run a 4.6 sec. 40 yard dash. So Im hoping to get bigger and drop that time by a couple tenths. I encourage EVERYONE who is looking to be in better shape to try P90X.
I am 16 and 160 lbs. and i can do like 17 pull-ups but im going to be starting the P90X workout pretty soon, so i hope i get substantial results. I really want this because I am on the Raiders team in Jrotc at my school and one of the events in the competitons are pull-ups.
Guys don't forget that swimming is the best cardio workout out there, most people don't mention it because it's too hard to maintain a good swimming workout, but take it from me: swim, bike, run, do pullups, do pushups, do healthy weight lifting excercises and you'll be in great shape for a long time! Keep up the good work
@MrAlstair123 i am training to be a lifeguard and they make you do rescues on people, treading with the weights, timed laps nd stuff like that. i just need to complete one more course which ill do when i am 16 yet i can only do one pull-up. any further advice as to what i should do?
oh and i play basketball about 2-4 times a week for around 3 hrs everytime I go
@lakerizvi Good man basketball is one of the best sports out there for cardio and lean muscle creation, the way i got good at pullups was by taking monday, wednesday, and friday as my pullups day started doing five sets of one very good pullup, by that i mean going all the way up and all the way down, and every week i incremented the amount of pullups per set, usually by one. But by the fifth week i was at five pullups in five sets, then i moved to doing 8 pulls in 3 sets, and now i do 10 in 4.
@lakerizvi You could probably do the same as long as you maintain the routine and NEVER deviate, I don't consider myself a very strong person and i was still able to achieve that goal so i'm pretty sure you'll get there way faster. Anyways see if that works for you.
BTW I'm studying to become a lifeguard too lol, good luck bro.
Go all the way down and then go all the way up to the top so you get your jaw over the pole :) then you will feel that its getting a much better workout :D But good keep up :)
don't worry about not being able to do any, you have keep trying, putting in the effort, and with hard work you will stronger and eventually able to start doing pullups. remember to exercise your whole body, start doing pushups, squats, deadlifts, every 3rd day or so try to pull yourself up on a pullup bar. when you can't get up even an inch, just hang on the bar, that will even start building strength.
If you're doing the P90x program you'll need to get weight bands. That's a good way to start out, and then like jumar said, periodically try to pull yourself up on a bar. also, it wouldn't hurt to work your biceps since that is a secondary muscle group used in pullups. either way, best of luck!
im 15 too bro. i was 190 last summer. before u do nething, lose some bulk. get protien powder, and do loads and loads of cardio. running, biking, and minor weight lifting. lose the bulk and then start toning
another way is to jump up and try and let yourself down slowly or put one leg on a chair. But if you start dieting and doing p90x by the time you lose about 20 lbs you will do them. I couldnt do any when I started over a month ago and i can do 4-5 now
Why do nobody tell johnnyboy531 to start at the top of a pull up, and slowly let yourself down. It works all the muscles as a pull up but it's easier.
Pause mid way through a 'pull down' and hold it if you can.
@jonnyboy531 when I was 12 I had the same problem, so I just got one of those doorway pullup bars and everytime I passed it tried my best. Eventually I could do one. Than 2, than 3, etc.. now I am 14 and I can do like 25.
@jonnyboy531 at 115 lbs, you'll want to increase your lean protein, shoot for 75gs a day, when you geta bit bigger shoot for 100. You should either use weight assist bands, or work on a weight assist machine and rotate high numbers, with higher weight (closer to body weight). You'll want to do high weight about once a week, and high numbers 2-3 times a week with at least one rest day per work work out..
@manxxx95 When I started, I could only do 2 (pathetic for me). Now 6 weeks into the program, I can do 8, take a break and then do another 4. Not bad, for me. You actually build up to it with many of the other exercises you'll be doing, in addition to the pull-ups.
i only could do like 4 max when i started, i can do about 12 max now. since you can do 13 starting, you're gonna be repping out 20 something, great strength to weight ratio you got there bud!
@HellsSpeed when you buy p90x you only get the CD's you have to buy your own pull bar and weights. THats all u need a pull up bar and a few sets of dumbbells and yoga mat and then your set.
I have the same thing this guy has, and it's pretty sturdy, but the pos trim in this house is not, so I'm always scared that my heavy ass is gonna break the door and drop me on my face, followed by a rain of angry splinters and drywall.
So yeah I stick to watching videos like this that make it look easy so I don't really have to impress (read: depress) myself.
yeh, the door frame supporting this thing is very old... I also am a bit concerned that it'll break on me... lucky for me, though, i'm 6'4 so I wouldn't have much of a fall... maybe it's time to knock on wood! (no pun intended)
Nice job, keep training. Don't the let folks that talk about chin height deter you. You are doing them for the work out not for a contest. You are still working your arms and body. Yeah and you probably weigh 50 pounds less maybe more. Age doesn't mater, in pull ups its all about weight. In power lifting its all about height and weight.
