You know it fucking kills me that when a person gets hit by a train,they throw on the emergency brakes and and crew comes and cops come and the corner comes!! But when a fucking dog gets hit screw it, that was someones pride possenion and it was taking away from them!! Dont get me wrong when a person is killed that is awful to!! But nobody does jack-shit for the animals or the nature that gets killed!! It really makes me sick!!

@stcatharinesrailfan If we (engineers & conductors) were to shoot the brakes for every "close call" or animal on the tracks, we wouldn't get 20 miles down the track. We have to get on about our business. Shooting the brakes after hitting a dog, will do absolutely nothing. Dogs aren't smart enough to duck down. He was dead before the 4 axle went over him. Sorry you feel that way, but you need to really think about how often it happens and when you have a heavy train like this....you can't stop.

@norfolksouthernjb No but i am an engineer for VIA and i have hit many animals in my 6 months of throttle power but still it is awfull whe you hit a coyote and it bounces off each car and you cant do anything!!! Tat a as sick for me!!!

That's just a sad reality in the world of railroading. Animals, both wild and domestic, get hit by trains all the time. Look at the bright side though... The buzzards got to eat and you got a horn show. I call that a good day. ;-)

Ok - I'm not an expert, but that looked like a Coyote. The animal stared down the loco and then at the last second attempted to flee back to its right (engineers left). The hit looked to be survivable if the animal stayed crouched down after the three locomotives went over it. While you were there, did you see any movement from that area of the hit? Nice catch on both the train and the accident.
