We're importing 300,000 people a year, but only building 30,000 new houses. Very few Australians want this, but big business and Government want it... so it goes ahead and there's not even any debate about it.
You forget that immigrants plug the holes created by labour and skill shortages (including the shitty jobs no citizen will do and which can't get shoved onto the Indigenous population) help with the whole 'low birth rate' thing, and are in general good for everyone.
Funny enough, and I'm not sure what really caused the economic crisis in the first place, but I'm firmly believing that it had to do with people spending way too much credit with their cards, and corporate greed.
So let's just sum it up, the desire for more cash, whether it be from the locals to high-powered governments, is what is causing us to lose cash by the damn truckload. God, people can be stupid sometimes.

I live in a busy city and the public and business' were outraged at the idea but the rich people living in the condos in downtown loved it. Luckily the measure didn't pass but the rich people funded the hell out of it. Money runs the world.
You mentioned "historic" buildings, how "historic" are they, here there is protections in place for buildings considered "historic", that they can't be knocked down and if there's any renovation done then the outside at least must remain intact and preserved.... is there no such thing down there?

I always look at it like this. Government's minds are like penises, in that they always tend to do what "they" want (be it sex or masturbation). But, a government with no money is like an old man's penis, in that no matter how much it may want to do something it's still incapable.

So in a sick way, you guys have to thank W. bush for ruining the world economic landscape, thus helping with your situation. You can repay this debt by taking him off our hands once he's done in about 2 months. He's no longer welcomed here in the U.S. He's now Australia's problem hehe.

They are someone else's truths. The original movie was just retreads of other people's theories and philosophies that have been around forever (boring) coupled with a cavalcade of deliberate lies (dangerous)
The Pinky Show is a much better source of truth about economic and political systems.
