I don't get why there's so much crowd noise that isn't singing? It sounds like people are just talking. I went to the matinee performance on this day and the recordings I have it's not like that at all.
People were talking because half the crowd had already left the venue, Darren ran back on stage after the lights had come back up and the security guards had come out, and literally he ran on, jumped to the piano, and was like, 'i know im selfish, but one more'- there was a mini stampede back to the stage and everyone was trying to get their friends back in the venue. Most the concert was girls screams, which did drown out the singing, but Darren was AWESOME!
I didn't care for the ppl yammering through his singing (how dare they!!), but when that person yelled out for him to "sing it..." I found through his reaction that he actually started singing the song a little more forcefully and using a few more runs through his vocal. Encouragement like that can make a good singer give a stronger and /or better performance, which he obviously did. :-)
I know it may seem amusing, but don't congratulate the man who shouted out "sing it baby" he pushed infront of me, then talked really loudly through teenage dream, was a rude drunk, blocked my view, when I was puched into him he shouted at me not to touch him, when I asked him to be quiet during teenage dream he told me to "shut the fuck up, or he would through me over the barrier", he also theatened to punch and pull out some other girl's hair. Also he didn't even know who Darren was.
I find it strange that people are saying it's disrespectful to sing along. It's usually what happens at gigs. Also, it must be incredibly flattering that not only did everyone know all the words to his songs, but also the duet and back up parts too. His smile in Granger Danger when the audience automatically sang Draco's part without needing him to prompt was adorable.
I find people talking the whole way through it disrespectful :( the two girls behind me literally did not shut up the entire gig and I was in the centre in the second row, so it wasn't even like I was hanging at the back... I did prefer this at the Borderline when everyone remained dead silent during it but this is still beautiful regardless. The emotion that Darren puts into his music never ceases to amaze me or take my breath away.
But the guy shouting at him? Not disrespectful, either. That's just freaking awesome right there. Darren's reaction is priceless. So although I wish some people would've stopped freaking yammering during this song, that moment right there just makes it that much more amazing. To whoever shouted that: you're a badass.
@stolenbaby2008 Yep, I'd generally agree and I'm sure he loved it. But I've not been to a gig for a long time where the audience drowns out the performer on every single song and he had to ask people not to sing along during Teenage Dreams which seemed odd. But throughout there was also a lot of shouting/chatting/screaming during songs which was what I was thinking of by the disrespectful comment.
@stolenbaby2008 Also completely agree about the woman who shouts "sing it baby" - that's a genuine reaction to her listening and being caught up in the music - it just felt to me that a lot of the time people were more interested than trying to catch his attention rather than listening and appreciating how amazing a singer he is. But that's only my personal response.

Honestly, it's not disrespectful at all to sing along at a concert. I've been to TONS of them, and that's usually what artist's want to hear, anyways. It gets them pumped up. Sure, it's probably not okay to be screaming along during a slow song like this, because it ruins the mood, but I'm sure he doesn't mind it that much. What IS disrespectful is TALKING during this beautiful performance because it just gives off the vibe that the ppl aren't even interested when they seriously should be.
@gemstone1992 The crowd were extremely enthusiastic and loving but maybe also a little disrespectful, this was one of the few songs I could hear him clearly on as for most of the rest everyone was singing along so loudly it was drowning him out.
@watchhimshine it makes me feel a bit ashamed of us fans cos it is disrespectful :( but I also know that he knows how much we love to hear him sing so I guess it's not too bad..
@gemstone1992 But with this song, he had already gone off stage, the lights had come on and music started playing before he ran back out because he forgot to sing it. So obviously, everyone was a little taken by surprise and excited for another song.
I can see how watching on youtube it comes across as disrespectful, but tbh, when you're there it just comes across that everyone is having a great time and loving the performance.
@katiek723 but it's not like they're singing along, it's just plain talking... i guess I was just comparing it to the one I went to where everyone was silent! :)
@katiek723 yeah I know and I've been to one of his concerts (in London) and it annoyed me then as well... I'm just as guilty of singing along but that's just because it seems to be the nature of the show (if you can't beat em..) but I just wish I could go to a live performance and actually be able to hear him :( he's got such a beautiful voice :D
All I can think about when I listen to Darren sing this song, is how much it must mean to him now. His dreams have come true. He was at the London Premiere for Harry Potter, he just closed a 40 date show that played to over a half million people and he got to perform his songs to his fans across the pond. It's just amazing how far he has come in such a little time.
This has always been one of my favorite songs. It has been said that I have a Disney problem. Now I have a Disney/Darren problem. I think of all the renditions I have heard, this is probably the most beautiful. He means every word of what he is singing and it comes through loud and clear. I would love to hear a pure recording of this by him, as I think it would be amazing. Darren, keep wishing on your star.
"sing it baby, sing it!" amen to that! awww his grin after that person said that made me smile too! Damn Darren, that was beautiful...sooo beautiful! His falsetto... woah. chills!
