I agree! I just did a new EP and used the Polyfusion. It's quality is stunning. The sound is open and big. It can go in all directions and IMHO beats a Moog for everything except the classic Moog bass patch, which never excited me anyway.
I do like my (ex) buchla 200 and my old Serge for whackier stuff and they do their own thing, but this machine is as good as classic modulars get.
thx! I will be doing some more in depth and musical videos soon hopefully. I sold a couple of my other modulars but have kept this as I need to dig deeper into it. It's a very powerful system but I haven't had as much experience of it as I had with my Buchla and ARP..
So, hopefully some more musical examples in the future
How hard do you figure it would be to design a modular additive synth system (or even subractive) from the ground up? Assuming i have a fair bit of electronics knowledge and lots of free time?
Like Xoxbox did the tb-303 from the ground up, and it's near the sound, but it still sounds tinny to me. But a pushpull audio oscillator doing sine waves shouldn't be too hard, right?
With time anything is possible, but I think I would just buy stuff ;-) If I was thinking of doing serious additive with analog I'd probably get some really accurate VCO's like Serge or Cwejman (or Polyfusion but hard to get)
Serge do a triple VCO and if you bought a few of them, you would be getting somewhere.
In all practicality, how much time is spent in servicing this venerable beast?
I accidentally removed your post! Sorry!
Servicing is not an issue with the polyfusion it is really som well built that once every so often just checking it over is enough. Right now 1 S&H and the Reverb do need servicing though..
The rest of us will hbave to go on begging Arturia to come up with emulations of this modular and the Buchla; but I guess it is not easy - there is the question of patents, schematics and so forth - years of programming; and of course people have only heard of Moog and Yamaha
Well, I use them for my job! Seems strange, but I produce music and these suit the way I work. No need to be jealous as these days there are many nice modern modulars available for reasonable money. I guess I bought at the right time when prices weren't crazy.
hey, you seem to have fun with this stuff, and ive alwasy been interested in getting into synths and stuff, and one of my idols john frusciante, hes really big on them, and ive always wodnered how they work? whats up with allt he wires and plugs? how do you generate the sounds? all that stuff, is there anyway you could give me a brief overview?
Have you ever plugged a guitar into an amp? Guitar output go's into amp input. Somewhere on this beast there is an oscillator (more than 1 probably) which generates a noise based on the waveform shape. Oscillator output is "patched" into one of the many options , lo pass filter, whatever by putting in to the filters input, just like the guitar to foot pedal to amp. It's really that easy, most people just are not used to seeing it on this sort of scale.
Exactly. It's just a question of joining the dots really. Of course, it is you who decides where to go and it can quickly become just a mess, but in principle, its just logic and knowing the basics.
sounds really good.. it sounds like an arpreggio..

Contrary to public perception, Polyfusion is regarded as the King of modulars to anyone who knows about synthesis. How I miss mine.

Demo's like this are the reason why I don't get into modular.
HelloImMrMarr 1 year ago
@HelloImMrMarr Why?
It's not a musical demo really as i explained, but modulars can do whatever you want with them. Up to the user.
