  • In many ways, hydrogen is actually safer than other fuels, say gasoline fumes. Whereas gas fumes will remain close to the ground, hydrogen will quickly rise and dissipate in air. In addition, hydrogen itself is so reactive in air that a hydrogen flame quickly consumes reactants and extinguishes unless more reactants are provided. In contrast, gasoline/gasoline fumes produce more "typical" slow burning flames. I would guess that the workers would not have survived a similar gas fume explosion.

  • Hydrogen gas is very safe if handled correctly and the proper safety precautions are taken during the off-loading procedure.
