  • I knew this was going to be something special. But I must admit my curiosity was aroused all the more when I saw Nabuko Imai's name. I know she is a phenomanal viola player. Saw her more years ago than I care to remember at the Wigmore Hall in London playing with a quartet .Sitting on the front stalls, I was captivated by her playing. My ears were glued to the sound of the viola and afterwards in the Green Room I told her how entralled I was by her playing. She really is a musician's musician.

  • @SelanikliSuleyman heh heh, you said aroused XD

  • Beautiful execution of a most beautiful work.

Keyboard and strings working in complete harmony...what a delight!

  • Outstanding performance!

  • FISH!

  • This is the best. I like his piano trios too. How can anybody write so many works in just 31 years? 600 songs, 9 symponies, piano concerti, chamber works, piano solos, and the rest. True genius.

  • Too peacefu-....... ZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZzzz (lol)

  • And just at the edge, what is that? A double bass. Good call, Mr. Schubert. Good call, indeed.

  • is this in da key of D?

  • @clearyboii2k9 yes, its definitely D major.

  • Yea Shubert was brilliiant.. He was the transition between the romantic era nd Classical!

  • @clearyboii2k9

Beethoven, too. You could even argue for Mozart...

  • It's just magnificent ! They're all Godly !

  • 11 people are deaf !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This music and the fish remind me of happy childhood~!! : D

  • We're studying this piece at school and I looooooove it :D

  • Titillating screen-time for the Trout :) What a lucky fish to be featured in such a lovely Schubert piece

  • The cello part gave me goosebumps.

  • they could do to jazz it up a bit

  • This is a cover version of the samsung washing machine tune - check out the original

  • @rwcrux LOL.

  • A horgász cselre készül, mert unja már

A csermelyt, felzavarja s na lám amire várt,

Már húzza tépi horgát a végén a végén ott a hal,

Jajj miért hogy mindig jól jár mindig célhoz ér ki csal.

  • A csermely halkan zúgott, hol útja völgyre nyílt,

  • i like the piano part, but as for the violins.... should they be more lively to be the naughty trout? I think their performance is ... a little dull and much too peacful. i feel like it's a group of old and strengthless trout slowly swimming here and there.

  • I'm IN LOVE with the fact that the violinist actually came-up out of his chair at 3:50 :)

  • Gyerekkoroménekóráinakkedvencze

  • Schubert ...... He was a MASTER ... amazing amazing amazing

  • In einem Baechlein helle

    Da schoss in froher Eil

    Die launische Forelle

Vorueber wie ein Pfeil....What a great song that poem made --and even better movement for this chamber work!!!!

  • Just FANTASTIC!!! BRAVOOOO!!!!

    :)))))))

  • As a boy, my father would sing this lullaby to me and to my brothers to help us go to sleep. It works. It would go like this:

"Lit-tle Ed-ward is so ti-red, he just wants to go to sleep... Lit-tle Ed-ward is so ti-red, he justs wants to go to sleep... Lit-tle Ed-ward is so ti-red, he justs wants to go to sleep..."

  • @577lpp your father must have been beautiful person and good father. I envy you and wish your father my most and best.

  • I think someone like him, who could create something this beautiful, must have loved nature and children. I can feel full of love :)

  • Schubert is my favourite composer , thank you this video .

  • Music is certainly man's greatest gift!

  • @bjnboy I totally agree with you!

  • Why is it that people feel the need to defend this as acceptable? We get this stuff for free on YouTube, but the people in that audience paid plenty to hear the concert. If you were served a bad meal in an expensive restaurant you might send it back. You'd certainly complain about it, and you wouldn't be likely to go there again. You wouldn't *choose* to hear a high school production of Shakespeare over a professional one. Would you *really* rather be too ignorant to tell the difference?

  • Love it. Especially the performance of the pianist. The trills thrill me.

  • so a stupid comment, gtimny, do me a favor...

  • About clothes- someone can play naked if he wants so...

And about other comments, here we`ve got an expression: "Рђавом курцу и длака смета..."

  • Ah, at last Mr. Mladić is heard from. Where are you these days?

  • sorry man, we, the ignorant people who only listen to this for peasure dont know enough about music to listen to a piece we cant stand because of details

  • Nah dont worry. he's just plain stupid and nothing more. Just thumb him down and dont pay attention to his idiot comments, He doesnt have a clue

  • Mihaela Ursuleasa is an incredible pianist! Thanks for uploading

  • mah...

  • Beautiful. I admire that pianist's technique and her obvious passion. You can almost hear the glints of the trout scales in the light passages...Schubert was definitely a master.

  • super podoba mi sie !!! cały czas tego słucham (music horen)

  • just perfect....

  • This has got to be the most fantastic performance of the Trout I have ever listened too.

  • A fine performance to both listen to AND to watch, esp. the way the performers really get into Schubert... the Steinway grand really sounds grand, doesn't it!

What sort of wood can that double bass be made of, it's almost black! ?

(As for the suggestions about computerized music stands, some modification of the Kindle or a similar device would be more appropriate than a full laptop! to say the least.)

  • The video is funny.....Music to stare at a trout swimming in the water going about its business.............

  • ¡Gracias!! refrescante, hermoso..

  • I have been looking for this everywhere, thanks for uploading! :)

  • A csermely halkan zúgott hol útra, völgyre nyílt.

Hűs mélyén pisztráng úszott, úgy surrant, mint a nyíl.

Én tisztán, s szépen láttam és csendben.....

  • All those loose sheets of music! Wouldn't a computerscreen make things a lot easier andf, surely, offer many new possibilities? Does anyone know if such a thing is in use? The advantages must be enormous, especially when larger orchestras are involved...

  • nice thought :)

  • It would. I'm a violinist, and I'd love not to turn pages. Nonetheless, people would object, because it isn't tradition. It would work well, though.

  • Obviously, they would: I've already got 3 red thumbs...But I still believe, that a laptopscreen mounted on a stand, makes a lot more sense than loose sheets. You could store a whole library, you could have playback-options, you could have large characters/notes for musicians with poor eye-sight, you could attach a pedal, in short you could concentrate on what's important, i.e. the music. I'm not a computer freak, I just have a practical mind and I love classical music.

  • haha except that would be prohibitively expensive xD

a good stand costs about 20, if a stage provides for 50 members, that's already a grand down. Up that to about 300 like you're thinking and it'd be...like 15k :D

  • It´s fine GOOD FOR US.

  • This is my favourite part :)

  • Any one can deny the concept of GOD

    after listening to Schubert?.

  • I can; what I can't deny is incredible ingenuity of the human mind!

  • Oh, my friend, I'd rather ask: any one can deny the concept of human after listening to Schubet? Because gods, as the dead, have little to say about what inspires art: passion, fear, wonder. If gods had something to do with art, I must say, Hamlet would be taken as a comedy.

  • What a pity that Schubert didn't live longer! His genius was in no way inferior to that of Mozart, Beethoven or Bach.

  • @diatonix2 Or Brahms, Wagner, Schumann...

  • eu fajoo millor!

  • i love the trout in the beginning :) so cute having an image always helps the musicians phrase and tell a story to their audience

  • bravo julian.

  • excellent...bravo,,awesome

  • so beatutiful Brings tears to my eyes!

  • indeed

  • I'm in love with the pianist.

  • so am i

  • I'm not really interested classics but this is great

  • Gosh, I would love to have been there to see this performed. Schubert's fantastic quintet has had it's large amounts of performances, but none of them match up in video quality and beauty to this version.

Everyone was absolutely magnificent in this.

    Especially the pianist... Parfait!

  • Violin player looks like Schubert

    XD

  • XD XD He is really similar!!! XD

  • @santidelriva LOL that's what I thought at first too!

  • Joué avec beaucoup d'inspiration,

les tempo les legato sont merveilleux

  • I wish either Mr. Maisky played his cello louder, or the pianist quieter. Nevertheless, a minor complaint. Love this piece!

  • 好!

  • amazing

    love this song

    5/5

  • It is beautiful.

  • So glad to be alive! So exciting!

  • i always wanted to do this quintet!

  • The pianist is amazing!

  • The theme and the 1st and last variations are the best bits.

Oh and the bit where it goes minor and LOUD and fast and the violinists almost fly out of their seats :D:D:D :)

  • love it =D thanks larpurnu!

  • I enjoyed that

  • bravo

  • how come?

  • A major hard on!

  • The ultimate variation music... =) Ingenious.

  • Simply beautiful!

  • KICK ASS

  • never get bored with the Trout variations, it is so inspiring

  • Sorry, I dont like to criticize but I also think this 4th movement was not so well played as the 3 first ones. It was a bit weak, especially in the end, lacking energy. The pianist is very good, though, a joy to hear, always graceful and lively.

  • i agree

  • Hahaha... the cellist is so funny.:D Nice performance althought.:)

  • And I love the random (but short!) viewing of the trout. =D

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I loved it.

  • Hard to believe that anyone can be "disappointed" by such endearing playing.

    Open your ears!

    Bruce

  • Yes, i´m very disappointed as well. Such a brilliant tune as the trout played in such a way! The trout is probably the best melody i´ve ever come across with, such an inspiration, i can´t believe someone could ever been so inspired...

  • a bit disappointed... i expected some more magic from this all-star group! instead of magic they brought a sort of unorganized inspiration, some talent in a bucket... great to see mihaela ursuleasa though

  • very enjoyable

  • 4 thema & variaties
