It really suits the dead, cold, atmosphere you are in. What they couldn't do with visuals they did with the music.

I recently played this through again and loved it of course. It feels like a game that shouldn't work, its ridiculous and overblown, pretty difficult, slightly annoying controls. But the soundtrack is wonderful and the feel of the whole thing is amazing. I had a go at doing a Guitar/Piano version of this, if you're interested its on my channel.

The graphic on this level was more than incredible - even in out time nobody want to make tiles so amazing

This really affects me in a strange way. I can't quite put a finger on it. This game was something else.

I remember playing this level as a little kid not only did some parts scare me I also cried when I heard this rather sad music cos I remembered the blue whale was going north to die

I remember back in grade 9 I use to think stereo sound was the height of technology, LOL. Well, for a young mind of that era, with no internet, stereo sound on a console was a BIG thing.

This is the kind of music that takes you out of a game and into an experience, and when Ecoo was crushed by those Ice Blocks so was I, I was scared to play for my own life.

I can't even begin to tell you how good this game was (at it's time). Took me by surprise! Couldn't stop playing it cause the story, level design, game play and music had me hooked. This game is as memorable of an experience to me as Final Fantasy X.

@solar464 Really? I thought X was great. First time I ever played a Final Fantasy game was when VII came out though, from that jumped straight to X! So VII's what really sparked my interest in the genre. But whatever.

seriously, let's break down the game experience of Ecco the Dolphin:

1. all of your friends disappear in a loud and chaotic moment and you don't know wtf happened.

2. when you ask others what happened, they direct you to the bleakest most dangerous parts of the undiscovered ocean

3. everything wants to kill you, and you catch yourself holding your breath because you know dolphins can't breathe underwater.

4. huge crabs, mean octopuses and evil aliens all with scary ass music.

i HATE this tune, the most depressing and upsetting music in game history!! the only decent peice of music in this game was the tune to open ocean on mega drive.
