  • The classical guitar is interesting

  • Terrific song, wonderful country singer..

great interpretation.... almost as good as Dry Branch Fire Squad's version, does anybody have a video? You can hear their version on Rhapsody - I used several of my free listens listening to various groups do this song after hearing Dry Branch do it on the Village XM

  • LOVED HIM.....

  • One of my favorite songs...circa 1978...my senior year in high school. driving to school listening to country music...when my friends were listening to rock, they now listen to classic country..I told them back then what was good...

  • Johnny Rodriguez is one of the most underrated singers in country music history. It's a darn shame his recordings have not been given the treatment they deserve in the digital era.

  • My wife wants to sent it out to her son Tim Davis who passed away and she misses him very much.

  • Johnny Rodriguez was my "heart throb" when I was a teenager. All the other girls my age were crazy about Donny Osmond, David Cassidy, etc. But here I am listening and watching Johnny Rodriguez's videos and I still thrill to him & his music. I haven't out-grown him. He is timeless. Thanks so much for posting this. It's SO much appreciated>

  • Johnny was so good looking when he was young. I think he still should be a great

country music star. and you never hear of him any more. He can still sing as good

as ever. I have always loved him. I think he is a better singer than Freddy Fender

was. My husband doe's not agree.he thinks Freddy was better.

  • This is country music at it's very best!!

  • Remember when he came on the scene in the 70's. Awesome talent. Great songs. Love when he mixes the Spanish into the songs. Timeless songs.

  • Remeber when he came on the scene in the 70's. Awesome talent. Great songs. Love when he mixes the Spanish into the songs. Timeless songs.

  • II read that Johnny was once married to willie Nelson's daughter

  • Oh my,,,,,,,,what a voice and what a handsome lookin' man!!!! They sure don't make 'em like that any more!!

  • I wonder where Johnny is today ?

  • Could listen to Johnny all day! (Easy on the eyes, too!!!)

  • I was so in love with him in the '70's...:D..ahem, still am. *sigh*

  • this guy is my grandpas cousin.

  • Love his voice & gentle spirit.....his heart is still young & full of love......:) I love you Johnny........:)

  • I was at the Stagecoach Ballroom in Ft. Worth, Feb.12th and Johnny still has the same unique voice and the same smile that just melts the hearts of his devoted fans. " Love That Rodriguez Sound "

  • Classic Music, these days are long gone. Thanks JR

  • What a great song from one of the great country singers. I'll always have a special place in my heart for this mans wonderful music and talent.

  • i love this song it is very true people should really listen to the words

  • Life was enjoyable in the old days. Good music, nice girls and cold beer--that was the life.

  • Johnny sings from the HEART!

  • just pure and great sounding country music, way to johnny

  • Johnny Rodriguez was the first Latino in country music. Freddy Fender started as rock n roll, but later made the transition to country. Johnny got his start playing guitar in Tom T. Hall's band, the Storytellers and Tom helped him to earn a record deal.

  • when its live the music dont lie! now thats talent un seen today thanks johnny R.

  • when you talk about your "smooth" country artists this guy is near the top of the list. this song, I feel, was one of his best. thank you

  • Oh Johnny..what happened and why? I met you at Wiley Alexander's Party in San Antonio about 7 Years ago? Just felt like taking care of you, taking you home with us. I did not know you..but when we moved I found 4 Lp's by you? Seems someone let you down, or did you do it yourself? What a super talent you were.

Yes, you sang that night. It was good.

    Stay safe..you were loved.

  • Great singer, great song ☺

  • i was runnin Honkey Tonks in central texas in the 70s when Johnny was rockin

the juke boxes. Happy times, great women and great songs to sing to them.

    thanks for the memory

  • Earl and Emmylou's cover hit #1 in Billboard, 10-1-88. God bless!

  • I love this song. Thanks for posting .Can you send the lyrics to my email add: neverfailshispromise@yahoo.com

  • I remember Johnny Rodriguez and Freddy Fender coming along about the same time. I thought Johnny was so much better, yet Freddy stayed in the spotlight for so long, while Johnny seemed to disappear. He's got an amazing voice. I always liked when he switched to Spanish for a few lines.

  • Before Ricky Martin, Before Enrique Iglesias, Before Julio Iglesias, Before Freddie Finder there was a young Texan who could go from English to Spanish and back to English with ease, who stole ladies hearts with his looks and easy voice and got this old Texas cowboy plenty of dances back in the day. Before the rest there was Johnny Rodriguez.

  • This is beautiful, I never heard this B4, but it was in a playlist, so I saved it to my favorites.

  • I would have eat some of that goat!!! :)

  • Love to listen to Johnny, this was when country music was worth listening to.

Don't like the songs of today's country.

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs ever. Especially by this special multi-talented artist!

  • I love this man..sing it Johnny.....Phyllis..

  • GRACIAS RANDY

  • The wisdom of Joaquin Jackson and Happy and Virginia Shahan and the raw talent of Johnny Rodriquez , a Sabinal boy, proved that Southwest Texas is full of surprises.

  • @TheTexn They knew talent didn't they. My daddy hung out with them some. Had he listened to Happy, he would have been a star too. He just couldn't leave the women and trucks alone. Trucking was an easy buck. The music business was too slow of a payoff.

  • Great singer!

  • Love his beautiful voice. He has no equal among the country clones and bimbos today. What you are seeing is rare, genuine TALENT.

  • Love this song. Does anyone have his version of "Poison Red Berries"?

  • Among his vast discography one of the most beautiful songs!

  • gotta believe in where it started.....

  • I believe in happy endings too. Johnny does such a wonderful job with this classic. I love the lyrics. The songwriters came up with a great one. Any song Johnny sings is a winner. Thank you for posting this one. - Paula

  • I'd forgotten how smooth and soothing his voice was.

How nice to hear this again. Thank you for sharing it.

  • its true country music isnt what it use to be, thats why Johnny remains one of the best country singers , possibly the best

  • Thank you fpr posting this...I have been looking for this on You Tibe for years and have not heard it for 20 years or more!!! Keep them coming...Hillbilly Heart, Desperado, etc.

  • I started to listen to CW songs when I was 14. It started with Eddy Arnold and JIm Reeves. Later, it was guys like JR and Johnny Duncan (and Jannie Fricke). That when Country Western was awesome. JR was a great talent and this song is so touching. I miss this kind of CW...so many years ago.

  • I've never heard a more beautiful song - country or otherwise! Thanks,

  • I'm desparate that someone upload "Don't Burn Those Bridges You're Crossing" by JR.

  • this is one of my early favorites as i began listening to country...along with john conlee... such great voices...and these songs are 'timeless'...thanks for the memories johhny...

  • @ibtheonlymark

same here...I live up the road from where he grew up and have seen him a few times, in concert

  • @ibtheonlymark John Conlee never did get the recognition he deserved...

  • Before Strait. Before Travis. There was Rodriguez.

  • Thank you so much for this--it was always a favorite of my husband and me. Brings back happy memories.
