There is a big difference between sick people and house on fire you idiot. Houses don't suffer. Not helping a person is equivalent to killing him. Insurance companies are needed NOT TO INSURE BUT TO REDISTRIBUTE the funds so that sick people can always get help, no matter which class they belong to.
Well its an analogy. The point he's making is that the entire insurance agency is predicated on risk analysis, which is impossible without knowing a person's state of health. Otherwise you are simply stealing from the company.
As far as the price of healthcare, the reason it is so high is due to government intervention in the first place which in turn created (and mandated in many cases) managed-care plans. It has nothing to do with private health-insurance.

I think the problem with health insurance is that the doctors are being grossly overpaid.
Let's introduce food insurance. I think it's a good business. Here is the plan:
1. Skyrocket food prices.
2. Open food insurance companies. You want to buy food, and you can't afford it? Food insurance companies will pay for you!
Fair enough, isn't it???
