hi, I have an older computer {about 5 or 6 years old a dell laptop WINDOWS XP i believe} well when I go to the audacity mixer toolbar to select 'wave out mix' the bar is 'greyed' out and doesn't let me select anything. I guess I am having a sound driver issue, can you please guide as to how's the easiest way to go about fixing this issue, cuz I am totally lost.. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your time, and help in advance...
@whistlenotelover That's a little hard to diagnose at a distance. You could try going into your Sound Control Panel and making sure that your sound card is listed as an output device there. Temporarily making it the default output device may help.
@utubenotsoku One way would be to place the sound you're inserting into a new track. Position the beginning of the new sound at the point at which you want to insert it. Then, in the original track, highlight the section directly over the sound you want to insert. From the Generate menu, generate silence. The duration of the silence will default to the length of time you have highlighted. This will "push" the tail end of the original track over exactly the length of the insert
@zander181846 To what are you referring? Linking in the video? Or in the comments? And to what? To combat spam, Youtube doesn't allow links in comments. I've tried.
@sirmorphalot I was referring to putting a link to the program you used. I went to the website as described and was not sure what to download. Other than that, great video.
this new laptop i bought dosent record sound off the computer meaning it dosent record "wat u hear" jist an internal mic that records... this is very lame that my brand new laptop pc does not have a basic function like that... but i dug deep and found out it's the work of the RIAA so people will stop recording songs free off the internet using programs like audacity and freecorder... any suggestions? or do u kno of any way i can acquire a real recording device/soundcard on my new pc w/o damagng
@daleva187goligo If you have a new laptop, then you don't have Windows XP, so this tutorial doesn't apply. Search for my video on "Recording Youtube Audio with Audacity in Windows 7". (Search for the text in the quotation marks). I can't link within a Youtube message, so you'll have to conduct the search.
@1k1ll3rp0ll0 Be sure to open your sound control panel and ensure that your sound card's output is selected as your default input device. Beyond that, I'm not sure I can help you much.
@MrJTreviews That's a bit difficult for me to diagnose, but you probably need to open your Sounds control panel and ensure that your sound card is selected as the default input device. Beyond that, I'm afraid I can't be of much help.

@coolman0926 The instructions are OS-specific. They differ even between different versions of Windows, so I don't think I can help you. I don't have access to a Mac
When I go to select wave out mix, it only says wave. So I selected that, and I played the youtube videos, but it's still not recording. It's showing a straight line. Help me please! D:
@RivenThirteen I can only suggest that you check your output volume levels (in Windows), ensure that your output is not muted (Windows) and check your recording volume in Audacity.
@rrrandommman If you're trying to do a voice over the music, just finish recording the music first and then overlay the voice in a second track afterward.

@therocker08: I'm sorry; I'm not sure I"m much help to you there. On some older versions of Audacity the necessary drop-down is already present, by default, on the toolbar.
