"If you think of yourself as helpless and ineffectual, it is certain that you will create a despotic government to be your master. The wise despot, therefore, maintains among his subjects a popular sense that they are helpless and ineffectual."
Good quote... One must remember with a grain of salt, All these "wise" men made their observations and created these bits of wisdom but did they change anything including the nature of humanity????
Knowledge making for a change in the nature of humanity? Haa, only if yu add to knowledge a great big heap of insight...I'd say humanity is in crisis and the challenge is to see in ways unfamiliar to most....now that's a whole new vid, Paps...you up for that one?!
All of these quotes made me think of how half of everything I do doesn't benefit me at all. If government is such a foolish nuisance, then it should have been abolished long ago. Don't mind me: The public is not ready for the Utopia that I envision. My views are obviously distorted from reading science fiction since I was a child...
Having just done an sent my taxes in with a check over ten grand, I feel they are more than a nuisance, however human nature being what it is I question the possibility of a real utopia....
WOW! That was great, Thanks! I think you almost summed up what any government really is, and ours is more and more, day by day, fulfilling the roles expoused by the famous quotes! LOL!
Mark Twain is my ultimate favorite. I loved these, Pappy...Remember, Ben Franklin said "Who is wise? He that learns from everyone. Who is powerful? He that governs his passions. Who is rich? He who is content. Who is that? Nobody."
All moved into the condo and have tons more stuff packed in a pod on our property in the north country - I'll probably be filming as we design and build our new home - forward thinking ... can't look back anymore ... I did a bit with my Jessie response from a few shots of the "old house" :)
Actually, not really; we had lots of equity and were able to meet our objectives for building anew; hopefully we helped *stimulate* the market in a positive way - we were lucky to have qualified buyers find us; I'm feeling better and better every day :)
It should take roughly a year - from designing the plans - editing - getting all the permits - hiring workmen, selecting product and so forth; we are building a genuine log home - it will be most beautius when done :)

It's just nice to dream about it, but I have to agree with you

mymoosejaw 3 years ago
LOL you wanted cheap healthcare?
PappyStu 3 years ago
Free heath care... Like here in Canada. But it is so hard to compare tax bases to find if it is more or less expensive this way.
mymoosejaw 3 years ago
Oh I would not call what you have "free" by any stretch of the imagination....
PappyStu 3 years ago
Not really - there is the tax thing.
