  • If you think about it, this sounds like the theme for the Distortion World in Pokémon Platinum.

  • Given the fact that this song leads right into optimistic, I sorta see it as a, calm before the storm type of thing. Everyone feeling some sense of unity and happiness before the chaos that is optimistic.

  • Radiohead makes an ambient song, douche bags interpret it at as hieroglyphics with a deep and profound meaning

  • @DaftGuylol1000 I get what you're saying but honestly radiohead is all about interpretation. Thom Yorke picked the lyrics for kid A (maybe king of limbs i forgot) out of a hat yet each song has its meaning. So really every song is what you want it to be and that's the beauty ( i think) of radiohead.

  • @DaftGuylol1000 kinda true

  • @DaftGuylol1000 The only thing that matters is what the song means to YOU, the listener. If he wants to interpret it any which way he likes, he's completely entitled to it.

  • 12 people are dubstep fans that expected a drop.

  • I never want this song to end

  • You know music takes on a whole new meaning when it passes end to end and you feel like it sjould have been much oonger...

  • wait? how is this an amazing song? i really don't hear anything. I understand that the importance of this song as a track in the album and the images its trying to convey yadda yadda yadda but seriously? this isn't a great song it's noise

  • @mull20641 'Ambient' is the type of music this is. It's quite beautiful and relaxing. However, I agree, forget all the meanings and significance people are attaching to it but just embrace the mood of the song.

  • @mull20641 You should turn on the sound on your computer or you should clean your ears

  • i used to be human then i climbed up trees

  • They should do this live.

  • reminds me of silent hill

  • @Lolei666 No it does not. This has NO resemblance to Silent Hill ambience you sodding fool.

  • @Peppepoppldoppl yes it does, shut up

  • @Lolei666 No hahahahah it does not. Silent Hill sounds NOTHING like this.

  • @Peppepoppldoppl I was just trying to annoy you with that response ... besides I said that it REMINDED me of Silent Hill, I never said it SOUNDED like Silent Hill

  • According to Wikipedia (totally reliable, I know) they (Radiohead) wanted to show their electronic interests, and one of them was Autechre. It shows during this song, and I HIGHLY suggest checking out their album "Amber" (which they probably were listening to) if you guys like Kid A. Some similarities can be heard.

Wow, I made this sound like spam didn't I? Sorry.

  • SERIALK1LL3R does not exist.

  • This song makes me think of a world with no development or humans at all, & all of the trees in the world are reaching out their branches like fingers to each other and connecting themselves.

    Amazing song.

  • @DramaticExtras if this song was in avatar it would have won SO many more oscars :P

  • @DramaticExtras that comment blew my mind. haha.

  • carrot

  • This is beautiful. It makes me imagine a perfect world. Its like God's hand reaching out to me, and me taking it. Beautiful.

  • @MusicMLK We've transcended nature? Then why can't we get rid of our own natures?

  • I wonder what the inspiration for this was, for both the song and the title. Would be fun to know.

  • @Shercko Inspiration, boobs inspiration for the tile. Big boobs.

  • this song gives me a sense of dreariness and darkness but for some reason it calms me down so much.

  • Needs more cowbell.

  • Anybody here played Homeworld? Because that's what this song reminds me of.

  • this makes me fly away to my fantasy world.

  • haha the video description is funny

  • This is amazing I think I just died and came back to life

  • Reminds me of Avant-Garde French Band, Air.

  • @Slandarich I'm just pretending I didn't see this. *walks away in slowmo*

  • Im sure this was on an advert on Discovery HD saying about how it takes nature 25 years to decompose a can but 5 seconds for a person to find a bin to put it in.

  • @michaelb3197 Nature is shit.

  • @MusicMLK How?

  • @michaelb3197 Well if it takes it twenty five years to dispose of something that a human can get rid of in five seconds, it's clearly outdated. It should stick to leaves and banana skins.

  • Simply beautiful. This album is a work of art.

  • lyrics?

  • @jmyg93 OOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM VVVVVVVVVVVVVOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM BOOOOOOOUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM TTTTTTTTTTTTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUBBBBBBBBBBBBB VVVVVV. • @Elcore thanks :D

    xD

  • AN ENDING (ascent)

  • This track is like a longer version of Peatbog Faeries - Weirdness

  • love it

  • IM 18 YEARS OLD AND I LOVE THIS FUCKING SONG GUY!!!!111

  • @SOADownsnubs Well that comment shows despite your like of this song, you are still a fag

  • @slayerfan666666 trololol

  • @SOADownsnubs troloolololololololololololol

  • @slayerfan666666

    >Radiohead fan

    >Uses "fag" as an insult

Don't think it gets any less self-aware than that.

  • @frauleinschwein That's how I roll mah nigga

  • is this real life

  • @SpookyAC130Spectre Is this just fantasy? (?)

  • @technoguyx Caught in a landslide,

  • pass me a joint

  • an amazing band memory sorrow and thorn.

  • if you listen really closely at around 2:13, after a layer breaks into the song, there is a short siren/air horn noise that repeats 3 more times in 5 sec intervals, then pretty much exactly a minute later happens again. i cant hear it on my headphones(maybe too bassy) but my room spkrs are clear. noticed it a couple of yrs ago while i was falling asleep & it made me appreciate & think about the song in a whole new way, sort of apocalyptic, def listen for it, it's there, radiohead loves layers

  • fun-fact: all the sound on this track is actually heavily manipulated guitar, mindblowing when you think about it....

  • I like this song. It's soothing. Very non-threatening as I would put it.

  • Serious Blade Runner vibes!

  • lol serialkiller closed his account

  • I wish there were albums completely like this.

  • @Ninja7545 Yeah, Radiohead are fans of Aphex Twin, but come on-ambient music is an entire genre. "Tree" by Aphex Twin is a very different track from "Treefingers". They were influenced by a lot of music when they did "Kid A", and not just electronic. That guy doesn't know what he's talking about.

Besides, Aphex Twin actually hung out and played at an event with Jonny Greenwood recently.

  • 3minutes and 43 seconds of my life gone because of you damned potheads consider every abnormal noise music..

  • @rvbrules822 Tell me then, what defines music? In your mind if this isn't music then what is?

  • @rvbrules822 Without weed, The Beatles wouldn't have changed musically. Without weed and acid, Pink Floyd would have been a long forgotten rhythm and blues band. Their early sound was very much influenced by Syd's psychedelic experiences, and if it wasn't for Syd there'd be no Pink Floyd.

Just a couple examples off the top of my head, but there's way more where that came from. Ambient music is amazing to close your eyes to, even without weed. So don't make such close-minded comments.

  • @TheOneartist Some artists pioneered genres and broke down boundaries without drugs, too.

  • @UserRED13 That's true, but there's certainly nothing wrong with drugs, either, depending on the drug. Weed is safer for our bodies than pain pills or caffeine. LSD is less toxic than Vitamin C-only your own mental state and environment could be a danger if mishandled.

I think it's obnoxious when people put down other's comments about beautiful acid experiences. A MUCH larger % of the brain processes information when you're on acid, you can't even fathom the experience. It can be very spiritual

  • @UserRED13 But then again, I'm not saying we need drugs to like this music or be creative. I still have barely done anything. I'm just saying it can make things more enjoyable and/or bring out creativity.

And I'm not advocating hard substances like heroin, or alcohol, or meth, or PCP (which sometimes gets grouped with LSD, which ticks me off because PCP is horrible and a completely different type of drug)

Anyway, have a nice day. I recommend Aphex Twin's Ambient Works Vol. 2 if you enjoy this.

  • @TheOneartist I already have "Rhubarb," "Shiny Metal Rods," and "Blue Calx" off that album. I haven't heard the rest. "Rhubarb" and "Blue Calx" are both really nice, but they're kinda dark and not as relaxing as this. "Rhubarb" straight plain makes me cry sometimes.

  • @rvbrules822 Funny, I don't do any drugs at all and this is one of my all-time favorite songs.

  • 9 people are trees without fingers....

  • the albums. in terms of where both bands were in their careers experimentally. the main similarity i hear though is the way they expressed and built their ideas which is something thats very hard for me to explain. the creativity in both albums are very similar in my opinion. whenever i hear those albums i think that everything just clicked and that both bands were at a level of creativity that is almost impossible to reach

  • @jerryG72 "Kid A" and "Amnesiac" = "Sgt. Pepper's" and "Magical Mystery Tour".

Sgt. Pepper and Kid A are opposite in sound and subject, though, but I see your thinking.

Same with Magical Mystery Tour and Amnesiac. They had a lesser critical reception, and were tracks gathered together rather than a meticulous construction. But both albums still have very amazing songs, thus masterpieces, but in a different way.

  • Sgt. peppers and Kid A are very very similar if you listen closely

  • @jerryG72 the albums? or songs Sargent Peppers and the song Kid A? how are they similiar exactly, not trying to bust your balls just curious

  • IMO this song is what makes Kid A a concept album. This ambient track feels like part of a journey that Kid A takes you through, from EIIRP to Motion Picture Soundtrack.

  • I love this instrumental!

It speaks for the production value and thought that went into 'kid A', that the whole album is still so relevant today. It's not just electronica superimposed on guitar or vice versa, but a whole new sound world.

  • Did you guys know that this song was originally a guitar solo by Ed O'Brien? They mixed it together to make it ambient. So good.

  • The strange sound at 0:46 and 1:33... so eerie...

And the resonant sound at 0:58. I love Treefingers...

  • The first time I heard this song, I was babysitting a one year old child.... she was playing with her mom's Zoon and somehow got this song playing. She then handed it to me and smiled. I've really liked the song ever since.

  • This song is like other world, other universe, other dimension.... Beautiful Song, Nice work Rdiohead!

  • 1.Kid A would'nt be Kid A without Treefingers....it just would'nt......2.It definately does remind me of "SERENITY",from Resident Evil 4..........Actually,when i first played RE4 and heard Serenity,i definately thought of Treefingers...Treefingers did come first after all.....ACtually,to me,Serenity is a slightly more solid version of this song....this is like..."pondering"..."infinately pondering"...somewhere in limbo....Serenity is more like beautiful and deeply unsettling at the same time

  • Reminds me of Eno.

  • I won a karaoke competition with this track once....

  • @5AU5AGEROLL I think I was at that competition. I was very impressed with your voice alterations.

  • rofl @ top comments

  • @5AU5AGEROLL hahahahahaah!!

  • I'm so glad that radiohead made this song, i mean at first it seems to be a relaxing song, it is relaxing, but it is much more! Some think it is a bridge between the "real" songs of Kid A, but i can't understand that way of thinking. Without that Song, Kid A wouldn't be Kid A as we know it.

  • this song reminds me of the music on RE 4 when youre in The Merchant zone

  • does anybody remember the level on Halo when you go up the grav lift into the alien space craft? for some reason this song always reminded me of that level.

  • this song came on and i thought i was listening to my meditation playlist, very relaxing.

  • @rockandstroll i'm not much of a radiohead fan myself (although i kinda like this album) but i see Aphex Twin as more of an influence

  • Paraguay v. Venezuela..?

  • @LeShandy Yep.

  • @LeShandy And we're going to have extra-time. God? Are you there? Are you still awake? I have a question: why?

pks better be better than brazil's attempts

  • This seems like it should be on Blade Runner.

  • when i smoke weed for first time, this song was like a universal travel.... :v

    :D

  • needs more cowbell.

  • @IndifferentDairyInn Yeah... Pretty dick move.

  • so trippy! it's very hypnotizing!

  • I like to stay up till about 4 in the moring and watch the sunrise to this song amoungst others like Morning Sun by Beady eye.

  • This song reminds me of the safe rooms from the Resident Evil games, or some of the Freedom Fighter's soundtrack. (:

  • The main thing I love about this song is the way it fades into Optimistic. Just sounds beautiful.

  • Pah, this is just a rip off for Aphex Twins - Tree, even the song names are similar lol.

In fact pretty much most of the Kid A album sounds like Aphex Twins Selected Ambient Works Volume 2.

  • @rockandstroll Maybe Radiohead was influenced by Aphex Twins? But I just listened to "Tree" for the first time, and I can say I don't hear any similarities.

  • @rockandstroll Guess what... no one cares! If you like Aphex so much than why are you bashing this? It sounds similar so you should like it.

  • @rockandstroll <<<<< troll detected. Or maybe a dumbass. Take a pick.

  • @rockandstroll It's not a rip off at all, when Radiohead were making Kid A, they drew inspiration from many kinds of music, Aphex was one of them, but it's more evident on tracks like Idiotique

  • so unfair that this song ends, i don't want to be awaken from the dream this song puts me in. it's so good, not exactly relaxing, but provoking an imagination

  • In my opinion this is the best Radiohead song, and I heard all Radiohead albums

  • @treefingersbackdrift if you like this, you should check out mogwai or godspeed you black emperor

that is if you don't know who they are already

  • real artists gotta eat sometimes

  • This song isnt just a song its a feeling that makes me feel like im floating next to all the tropical fish and animals in the sea i love this song so much <3

  • Fuck Aphex Twin, this is a rip off of music from Tomb Raider 2!

  • I just came back to Earth when the song ended. That was one good experience right there. damn.

  • @Nathan797979 yea you`re right...it`s an entire fucking genre and i ought to have known better than to say anything negative about Radiohead

  • . .

  • @totallymangled I absolutely love both of the songs. I can see the similarities but they're obviously two different songs.

The great Radiohead didn't rip that song off with this load of bullocks.

  • Go listen to Aphex Twin ' Stone In Focus' then come back and tell me that the great Radiohead didn`t rip that song off with this load of bullocks

  • @totallymangled Just because there is similarities between the two songs doesn't necessarily mean that this is a rip off of it.. Isn't that what creating music is about anyway? Pulling from a broad range of an individuals influences to create something original and unique? The two songs are both beautiful, but you can't just go and say that Radiohead completely plagiarized that song... Music is what it is :) peace

  • @OwnagePETH Apologies for the crudeness of my initial comment however i can`t agree with yours since this song is neither original or unique. Also please don`t put words in my mouth as I didn`t say that Radiohead 'completely plagiarized this song'....music has regressed in the past 10 - 15 years... it has become repetitive, staid and predictable. Radiohead is one of the few who push the boundaries but with this song they failed miserably and cheated their fans. Peace to you too.

  • @totallymangled You clearly have no understanding of real art or why it's made. Do you actually think any serious artist creates his/her/their work for anyone but themselves?

  • La Cathedral Engloutie in a fraying world

  • and why would I wanna call him gay?

  • i LOVE THIS AMBIENT PIECE OF GOODNESS.....SOUNDS VERY MUCH LIKE SOME BRIAN ENO INFLUENCE IN THERE. QUALITY MUSICIANS ARE INSPIRED BY OLDER QUALITY MUSICIANS, AND BRIAN ENO IS A GENIUS. :-) Beautiful piece of music.

  • I made a steamroller out of some pvc and an old chamber pipe bowl i had. I was listening to Kid A at the time, so i named it treefingers.

    Hit Awesome.

  • Holy fuck I just realised this was released on the day of my 7th birthday, Im kid!

  • This is the greatest album of all time, every time I listen to any of these songs I learn something new and the album sounds slightly different than it once did. I think this album illustrates the details to my life in a very personal way.

  • @howie094 I get what you're saying about respect for ambient music but ppl who buy this album might listen to this whole song waiting for something to happen, and then nothing does happen. I guess you just need to understand radiohead and their anti-establishment style, bet this one pissed the record company off...

  • @jooxington i wasn't waiting for anything to happen i was just wishing it would never end.

  • @jooxington I bet it didn't. It's absolutely insane and anyone who even has a slight appreciation for real music is in love with it.

Some facts about Kid A: Kid A, fourth studio album by English alternative rock band Radiohead, released in October 2000. A commercial success worldwide,[1] Kid A went platinum in its first week of release in the UK.[2] Despite the lack of an official single or music video as publicity, Kid A became the first Radiohead release to debut at number one in the US.

  • This, I think, is mainly an intro for Optimistic which is a climax in the album. It is conviniently placed after The National Anthem and How to Disappear Compleatly, which are 2 totally AWESOME tracks. This track builds suspense and makes the listener wonder and anticipate what's coming next.

    And that's Treefingers for ya!

  • @bnmyuiop Yeah, I find it as a sort of 'breather' song that lets you calm down after the tumultuous strings in the climax of How to Disappear and the chaos that was the National Anthem. And prepares you for the rest of this ridiculously awesome album.

  • When I hear this I think of the last 25 minutes of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

  • This song changed my life.

  • Guys! Im getting it, Im understanding The Kid A album, Kid A song is about childrens futures being shaped by the generations above them,by actions like global warming, and tree fingers is to remind you of the beauty of nature and how inspiring it is!

  • kid A kid B kid C - I think of those glass containers that clones are made of when i listen to this song

  • one of my sleeping pills

  • this actually might be the greatest array of soundwaves I have ever heard.

  • I was listening to Kid A once in bed, I was talking to my girlfriend, then just before this song came on she went and had a shower, then came back at the very end. I fell into a very light sleep in the time she was in the shower listening to this song, and I had an amazing dream about icicles and this music was in my dream. I never really like the song until then.

  • @rohan316 not to be a buzzkill man, cuz thats really cool, but she took a 3:43 shower? thats pretty fast man, lol.

  • @poprocks187 you stay in longer than that? it only takes a couple minutes to wash your hair and body

  • @rohan316 wondering if half of that story was needed o_o

  • @rohan316 deep shit man

  • the sound of 2514

  • =]

  • this is what it sounds like to truely be living within the moment

  • When I first listened to this song I was like "wtf?". How is this a song on an album such as Kid A??? Just this one time, I was on my bike crusing from a long day in school, I put Kid A on. It was pretty late and about to get dark, and I was really tired. Just after The National Amthem and How to Dissapear Completely this song came on... It was just perfect, after those intense songs, to listen to such ambient music, while on my bike. From that moment, I can say that I fucking love treefingers!!

  • @IcoverRadiohead A lot of people don't really get KId A, then they listen to it when they're really tired, then it just clicks.

  • Could only get better if it was longer :/

  • the king of limbs has treefingers

  • this makes me want to dream of going on a space adventure......so calm

  • @howie094 YEAH IT IS. and you know it

  • i think im in the future when i listen this song hella baked haha

  • @howie094 I agree with you that it is a good song, but I think I like it more becuase it leads into one of the BEST songs.

  • I meditate to this song before my med school tests, where I try to picture the top of my head and zoom outwards until I reach the outer atmosphere. Brilliant, peaceful, and clears the soul and mind.
