Why would everyone be so confident that it is father/daughter or romantic love?^^ I hear someone say love can be in many forms and I agree. Sesshomaru is so young, 19 (physically and mentally). He has just been claimed to be a full daiyokai near the end of the manga! He isn't ready to be a parent yet (Yes, m'lord, I'm saying that about you^^). Also he protected her, but he let her find food for herself and let Jaken and Ah-un play and look after her.
It's natural that Sesshomaru would want Rin to find her own food; in his eyes, he would never want to cripple her and leave her entirely dependent upon him. It's what a parent would desire (as opposed to a spouse who would encourage continual dependency -- ie. Inu/Kag).
I wouldn't be so quick to call Sesshomaru mentally 19, he certainly shows a great deal of wisdom beyond the equivalent years. Anything that's been around for hundreds of years has far more experience than a human can fathom.
@elfinstyle About ages and mentality, read Inuyasha Guidebook. Shippo, Koga are demons, and as Sesshomaru, they "live anywhere form tens to hundreds of years" (the author leaves us to decide), do you think Shippo and Koga're more mature than people like Miroku and Kikyo (who are both 18)? If he displays signs of wisdom, that's the individual, rather than age. Although I do see a young man in Sesshomaru, with all of his regality and "magnificient bastard" traits.
@elfinstyle I never says he should encourage dependency. Just do you think 8 is a bit of a young age to find food on your own? Is it better to at least go with her and give her some guidance? They travel continuously, and what will happen if one day she pick up the wrong mushroom/fruit? (and note, I don't say they are spouses, father/daughter.. either. actually hes only 19 in human years. hes obviously a lot older since hes a demon. look at inuyasha. hes 15 in human years and he was "dead" for 50 years. i got their ages from the inuyasha profiles book.

Well Sesshomaru was about to change into his demon shape and go after Naraku, but then Naraku reminded Seshomaru that Kohaku had Rin, and seshomaru stopped changing and went and saved Rin. He could never hurt Rin (on purpose).

Sesshy is by far the most badass character on that show, and I think it's cool that he's not a complete dick and takes care of that little girl. Sesshomaru loves Rin as a surrogate daughter; he accepts her unconditional love and protects her with his life, jeopardizing his own on more than one occasion, and keeping an ever vigilant eye on her. A decade or however many years you slap on that, does not change such a tender, simple bond or that a child opened a once cynical adult's eyes to life.

I miss inuy, Gundam replaced Inyu on sunrise, but gundam's ratings are down so Inuy might come back, and if they don't, we'll just have to wait For The Inu manga to end. Once it does, they can continue making episodes with NO fillers.

Rin and Sessh in love as a couple? Are you reading the same manga everyone else is? Sesshomaru loves Rin as a surrogate daughter; he accepts her unconditional love and protects her with his life, jeopardizing his own on more than one occasion, and keeping an ever vigilant eye on her. A decade or however many years you slap on that, does not change such a tender, simple bond or that a child opened a once cynical adult's eyes to life.

..... if you wish to talk age then think about Kagome and Inuyasha...... there is a slightly less big age jump.... and honestly i don't think age matters... if you love someone, no matter in what way, age doesn't really matter

THANK YOU!!!! finally someone who understands that age is just a number when love is the case. look at me and my bf. theres a big age gap between us and none of my friends can accept that hes not just some player looking to get in my pants. he truely cares about me. i thank you on his behalf as well as my own.

I wouldn't doubt your boyfriend if I were your friends, my parents had an age gap on 25 years (it didn't last, but so what?) and one of my teachers knew a couple that had 30 years inbetween, and it lasted until the oldest died.
But unless you're answering another comment, I reccomend you listen to the song: "I will always love you, the way a father, should love his daughter". It's not a couple vid.

my parents have an 11 year age gap and they've been together for almost 20 years! age doesn't mean anything at all. it depends on how long you can stand them! ; )

b/c you know (& she does too)someday she'll die but Sesshomaru will still live for a really really long time. That's what the whole episode was basicaly about. But he loves her to death you can see it in his eyes, words & actions toward her. That's what makes it sad.

I miss inuy, Gundam replaced Inyu on sunrise, but gundam's ratings are down so Inuy might come back, and if they don't, we'll just have to wait For The Inu manga to end. Once it does, they can continue making episodes with NO fillers.
