I was fortunate enough to work with the guy recently on there tour in Orlando. Mike's a really awesome laid back guy. The whole crew was awesome to work with actually. And for all you haters he's been clean since 85' and lives a healthy lifestyle now of eating healthy and working out. Mike will kick ur ass!
@Ultradonna Nice. My Wife's Mother. A friend of her's has been friends with Mike since they were kids. He's an old school punk rocker himself. I've never met Mike myself. But I'd love too someday.
I WAS ABUSED AS A CHILD. SO WHAT? SO FUCKING WHAT? I WAS MOLESTED BY MY HOT BABY SITTER WHILE MY BITCH WHORE OF A MOTHER WAS GETTING READY TO GO STRIPPING AT THE PUSSYCAT THEATER. I HAVE REAL ISSUES, JUST LIKE YOLANDA AND HITLER HAD. LISTEN UP FRIENDS ... I EXIST AND I AM AMONG YOU TODAY. LOVE ME. FEAR ME. HATE ME. BUT DON'T EVER ABANDON ME. I AM IN NEED OF YOUR ATTENTION. I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOUR ... HATE.
Yeah, I hope he stopped using. But, trust me: I've never met someone who actually recovered from using heroine -- they always go back for sure. I hope I can be proven wrong, no doubt! But hey, there is no way to ever prove it with him one way or the other, but if I were a betting man. . . .
THIS MOTHER FUCKING FAGGOT MIKE NESS IS THE BIGGEST POSER AND IT IS COMING OUT IN HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY THAT HE KISSED A MAN'S PENIS FOR DOPE IN 1988. AUGUST 1988. I WAS THERE IN FULLERTON, CALIFORNIA AND A FEW OF US WALKED INTO A ROOM WHERE MIKE NESS WAS WACKED OUT OF HIS MIND AND HE FAGGED OFF WITH SOME DUDE FOR SOME HEROIN. TRUE STORY. MIKE NESS REMEMBER ME BRUCE.? REMEMBER THE 40 DOLLARS YOU TOOK FROM LISA'S PURSE AND WE BOUGHT SMACK AND TACO BELL? FUCK YOU MIKE. I AM ALSO TELLING THE TRUTH. FAG
Mike is so f-ing honest...it all comes through...so unpretentious, and grateful for what he's got and where he is...you can tell he's in awe of Springsteen....his attitude is so rare and refreshing...Social D..best band ever.
Hottest man ever. Hotter at 49 than most boys are at 25. Simple, honest music. Don't like it, find something you like and go there. Otherwise you just look silly.
Oh, my goodness is this guy into some hardcore drugs! I can tell by the way he is acting during the interview -- quick movements, sucking in through his nose -- more or less, I see this stuff all the time with junkies attempting to recover from durgs like heroine.
@croatonfloyd Pretty scary when you consider that he stopped using more than a decade before this interview took place. I guess it stays with you for a long time, even if you do get clean.
@V8Deuce Fuck You you ignorant deuce bag. If your to blind to see that Mike Ness Solo project is his Rockabilly Project. Than your just a monkey with a Brain the size of a pea.
He actually covers many Honkey Tonk bands from the 50's on his second solo album tard.
@Ericisgoodenough "He covers many Honky Tonk bands" - Yeah, and he does not do them justice! In fact, i will go so far as to say - he rapes and ruins any original 50's song he has ever done. His monotone voice and three chords are a complete joke. Take it from someone who is a professional musician ! There is no ignorance here pal - i speak the truth, and if it hurts you - then so what !
@V8Deuce There's a difference between not liking Mike Ness music, and saying that he's not Rockabilly. If you don't like his music that's fine, but you were saying that this music is not Rockabilly even tho it is.
I agree the cover album was'nt as good, but Cheating at Solitaire is one of the best records i've ever heard.
@Ericisgoodenough Thats just it. None of his Music is Rockabilly. None of it. He's a Punk Rocker who's now trying to play the Cowboy / Honky Tonk / Rockabilly card and it isn't working! Big Sandy, early James Intveld, Marti Brom, Jack Baymoore & the Bandits, Rip Carson, High Noon, Red Hot & Blue, the Space Cadets, etc - thats Rockabilly! Sonny Burgess, Carl Mann, Malcom Yelvington,Glen Glenn, Gene Vincent, Johnny Burnette - Thats some original Rockabilly ! I know what i'm talkin about !
@V8Deuce Yea your absolutely right. Social Distortion is Punk Rock, some have called it Cow Punk or Punkabilly. But Mike Ness solo is a different project, it is not Punk Rock. I agree with you tho original Rockabilly is the absolute best. I'm into Elvis and Buddy Holly.
@ogreskulls What ?!?!??!? You don't know anything about music. I type/write what i do because music is something i am an expert in. "Roots music" does exist but Big Sandy is indeed Rockabilly/Western Swing.
@V8Deuce I always get a kick out of it when people who don't have a strong understanding of music think that there is a direct correlation between the number of chords and the complexity of a song. FYI, having fewer chords makes it harder to pull a strong melody out of those chords--- just imagine trying to write a one-chord song!
@rbarto79 "Who don't have a strong understanding of music" . I know more about music than most. Its what i do . Its what i'm in to, Its what i collect. Trust me. He's a joke!
@V8Deuce Besides that, Ness rarely sticks to three chords anyway.... hate to burst your bubble, but how many chords do you think the majority of your "authentic" rockabilly songs have? You guessed it!
@fweekstir Agreed. If you missed the point of my exchange w/ V8Deuce, I was pro-Ness, stating that he's actually been doing this for a long time, and that "simple" chord progressions don't necessarily translate into "simple" songs.
@rbarto79 I got your point exactly. I agree with you sir that simple progressions are the lifeblood of great songs. There is so much you can within the context of three or four chords. One can play off that with an offsetting bass line or little nuances in the rhythm parts that bring a song to life. Not to mention inflections in vocal tone or phrasing that give things a whole new feel. Drums can set a song apart too.
Its the SUM of the parts. Not just the chords. Example... Greenday. (ugh)
@fweekstir Thats what I meant initially. People can slam ness all day long but that does not change the fact he has been true to his craft. I personally think he does what feels right to him. Plays within himself.
Does what moves him. And it moves others. Not all. But some. Like me. I like what he does.
Some people like his shit. Some don't. I do and make no apologies for it. Not a big fan of zeppelin although thats my era. Im 51 but zep just aint my thang. Good band. Just not "my" band.
@Ericisgoodenough Ha ha ha ha. Yes, i just knew you'd show the lack of education and that the low class would come out. Ya see, its the type of people like yourself that buy in to Mike Ness (Social D) nonsense. Thanks for proving my point.

@gothabillygirl yea that could work, or maybe write some new music that has more than the same four cords over and over and over and over (Winners and Losers)..... that could work
It was cool to hear he started to like Bruce b/c of Robert Gordon's version of "fire". Its funny 'cuz Gordon (when he was younger) and Ness look alike. Also the bits about Setzer (Mike used to want "just 4 tattoos"; Setzer playing 50's style on a dark tune for a change) was very cool.
